'Wick Beats Union, Springfield
SCHENECTADY, NY – Hartwick's men's swimming and diving team swept teams from Union and Springfield on Sunday in Schenectady. The Hawks are now 3-0 since the beginning of the year and improve to 9-4 overall in dual meets. 'Wick defeated the host Dutchmen 163.5 to 128.5 and the Pride 182-112.
Hartwick took first in a total of nine different events on the day. Senior
Miles Blaney (New York, NY/NYC Lab School) won three individual events for the second day in a row for the Hawks. He won the 200 free (1:46.65), the 100 free (47.80), and the 100 fly (53.06).
Four other Hawks recorded victories. Sophomore
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) earned first place in the 1000 free (10:13.30) and 500 free (4:57.96). Junior
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan) took first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.47. Junior
Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City) was tops in the 200 back (1:53.91).
Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL/Coral Shores) earned the top spot in the 200 IM (2:00.03).
Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley),
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield), Plunkett, and Blaney also combined for first in the 400 free relay. Plunkett, Day, Detar, amd Mulvehill also placed second in the 200 medley relay.
Santiesteban also earned second-place finishes in both the 200 free and 50 free. Plunkett was second in the 100 back, and Edmister was runner-up in the 500 free.
Hartwick returns to the pool next Saturday, January 17. The Hawks travel to Alfred to face the Saxons at 1 p.m.
