Ithaca Beats U of R on Senior Day
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team defeated Rochester Monday afternoon, dropping the YellowJackets by a score of 159-135 at the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion. The win pushes the men's overall record to 8-0 on the season.
Matt Morrison led Ithaca in the diving events, taking first with a score of 362.47 in the 1-meter spring board for a first place finish. Morrison's score marked a new pool record, breaking Derek Rand's score of 314.60 set on Feb. 4, 2012. Morrison's score of 395.55 on 3-meter completed the sweep, once again setting new pool and school records.
The Bombers opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Brendan Marks,
Aidan Hartswick,
Lucas Zelehowsky and
Logan Metzger touched the wall in 1:37.33, finishing just behind Rochester's time of 1:37.24.
Metzger carried his momentum into the 100-yard backstroke, finishing first in a time of 53.67. He would go on to earn another first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 47.99.
Hartswick and L. Zelehowsky also achieved individual success later in the meet, starting with Hartswick's top 100-yard breaststroke time of 1:01.04. Hartswick finished in a time of 2:16.47 in the 200-yard breaststroke, just beating out teammate
James Bowe (2:17.61) for his second individual victory of the day. L. Zelehowsky placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.72, before taking the top spot with a time of 2:01.14 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Senior
Clement Towner followed with an impressive showing in the 1000-yard freestyle. He finished first overall out of seven competitors, taking the top spot with a time of 10:26.74. Towner completed the sweep of the long distance events, taking first with a time of 4:55.08 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Adam Zelehowsky earned Ithaca another individual first-place finish on the day, touching the wall in a time of 1:43.75 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Ithaca closed with second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as
Addison Hebert, A. Zelehowsky,
Connor Schroyer and Metzger finished in a time of 3:12.20.
The Bombers honored their seniors before the contest, as the victory marked one of the final home meets for Marks, Metzger, Morrison, Towner, L. Zelehowsky and
Jonathan Wheeler.
Ithaca returns to action on Jan. 17, as the Bombers head to RPI for a road meet. Start time is scheduled for noon.
