Ithaca Takes Down Rochester
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team defeated Rochester Monday afternoon, dropping t
he YellowJackets by a score of 151-149 at the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion. Ithaca now sits at 8-1 overall on the season.
Nickie Griesemer highlighted the meet with a sweep of the diving events. She recorded a 303.90 on the 3-meter board, breaking her own pool and school record. Griesemer's previous record of 303.80 was set on Feb. 1, 2014. She completed the sweep with a score of 290.70 in the 1-meter, taking first.
The Bombers placed second in the first relay event of the day, as the team of
Kylie Bangs,
Samantha Reilly,
Christine Zulkosky and
Lake Duffy finished in a time of 1:52.73 in the 200-yard medley. Rochester took the top spot with a time of 1:52.21. Reilly also recorded an individual second place mark later in the meet, finishing in a time of 1:10.76 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Duffy followed suite. She took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.37 and second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.12.
Grace Ayer earned Ithaca's first top spot of the meet, as she paced the field of seven in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.59. Bangs recorded a time of 1:02.19, finishing second overall. Bangs carried her momentum into the 200-yard backstroke, where she earned first place with a time of 2:13.03. Ayer captured her second top finish of the meet in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing first out of six entries with a time of 2:29.62. Ayer finished her afternoon with another top finish, as she placed first in the 200-yard Individual medley with a time of 2:13.88
Ithaca placed second out of seven entries in the 1000-yard freestyle, as
Catherine Tompkins finished in a time of 11:08.61.
Miranda Wingfield followed with second place in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 2:01.35.
The Bombers honored their seniors before the contest, as the meet marked one of the final home events for Bangs, Zulkosky,
Megan Buisman,
Katie Huber,
Lyndsay Isaksen,
Mariel Kunnapas and
Meredith Wells.
Ithaca returns to action on Jan. 17, as the Bombers head to RPI for a road meet. Start time is scheduled for noon.
