Ithaca Wins RPI Kumpf Invitational; Hartwick Beats Alfred

Ithaca – First Place (Kumpf Invitational)
TROY, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team finished first out of seven teams at Rensselaer's Kumpf Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Robison Pool. The Bombers earned 493 points during the meet, beating out second-place Rensselaer's score of 299.5. William Smith rounded out the top finishes with 201.5 points.

Ithaca opened the day with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Megan Buisman, Samantha Reilly, Christine Zulkosky and Lake Duffy finished first in a time of 4:09.65, beating out second-place RPI's time of 4:10.34.

Duffy followed up with two individual first-place finishes. She started with the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle, touching first in a time of 25.48. She completed her day with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle, taking first with a time of 56.18.

Grace Ayer continued to collect individual accolades, starting with a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.37. Ayer earned another victory with a time of 2:10.34 in the 200-yard backstroke, touching first in a field of 14 entries to set a meet record. Ayer took her third top spot of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 2:30.10.

Nickie Griesemer swept both diving events, setting meet records in the process. She started with a score of 276.10 in 1-meter, before scoring 288.40 to pace the field of 10 in the 3-meter.

The women closed the day with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Erin Hackett, Lyndsay Isaksen, Cassie Papaleo and Lauren Cox finished in a time of 3:44.93, earning first place out of 13 entries.

Ithaca returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 24, as the Bombers head to Alfred for a road meet. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.




Hartwick 159, Alfred 125
ALFRED, N.Y. – Hartwick's women's swimming and diving team defeated Alfred on Saturday on the road by a final count of 159-125 to improve to 5-9 on the season. The Hawks won a total of seven races on the day in the team victory.

Sophomore Morgan Riggins (Austin, TX/Dripping Springs) led Hartwick with two individual wins. She also combined for another in a relay event. Riggins won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.18. She also was victorious in the 200 breaststroke in 2:40.94.

Riggins teamed with Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan), and Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) to take the 200 medley relay in 1:57.37.

Kaitlyn Campbell (Bartlett, IL/Glenbard North) also won two events for Hartwick. She finished first in the 1000 free (11:15.18) and the 200 butterfly (2:24.41).

Agate and Rutigliano also earned victories against the Saxons. Agate placed first in the 200 back in a time of 2:17.89. Rutigliano took the top spot in the 200 IM (2:16.65).

Hartwick stays on the road next weekend as it visits St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY next Saturday.




#4 Johns Hopkins 191, #7 Stevens 71
HOBOKEN, N.J. - The No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team dropped a 191-71 dual-meet to No. 4 Johns Hopkins University Saturday at the DeBaun Aquatic Center in Hoboken, N.J.

The Ducks drop to 1-2 in dual-meets this season with both losses coming at the hands of nationally-ranked foes in JHU and Pomona-Pitzer. Stevens' win was against DI Saint Peter's.

The Ducks opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of senior Sharon Rooker, senior Brittany Geyer, freshman Sarah Jurczyk and senior April Lawson combining for a 1:52.25.

Junior Elizabeth Heinbach picked up a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, turning in an 11:02.16, and sophomore Danielle Caruso placed second for the Ducks in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a 2:00.14. Geyer ended up second thanks to a 1:09.26 in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Lawson doing the same in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 25.30.

After the intermission, Lawson and Caruso went second and third in the 100-yard freestyle on the back of times of 54.93 and 55.94, with Geyer nabbing a second-place-finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.74). Caruso's 5:16.92 was good for a win in the 500-yard freestyle, with the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Caruso, Lawson, senior Nicole Miller and Rooker teaming for a second-place finish with a time of 3:43.54.

Prior to the meet, Stevens honored six seniors swimming competitively at the DeBaun Aquatic Center for the final time in their careers - Tiffany Chow, Brittany Geyer, April Lawson, Maria McClure, Nicole Miller and Sharon Rooker.

Stevens will return to action at The College of New Jersey Monday, January 19 at 1 p.m.




Rochester 173, Nazareth 119
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting University of Rochester defeated Nazareth Saturday in women's swimming and diving. The Yellowjackets won by a final of 173-119.

Naz sophomore Cameron Hess won two events and placed second in another to pace the Golden Flyers. She won the 800- and 400-meter freestyles in 9:43.74 and 4:44.53 respectively. She was second in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:18.98.

Junior Kimberly Pedrotti was second in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:21.85 and second in the 200-meter IM (2:41.57). Sophomores Bridget Geary and Shannon O'Malley were second in the 50-meter breaststroke (:37.31) and 50-meter freestyle (:29.88) respectively. Freshman Erika Holland was second in the 100-meter butterfly in 1:14.23.

Nazareth is home Friday for a dual meet against Fredonia. Diving begins at 4 p.m. with swimming starting at 6.
