UTICA, N.Y. -- The Nazareth women's swimming and diving team enjoyed a very successful Saturday against Utica and Cobleskill in a tri-meet hosted by the Pioneers. The Golden Flyers’ defeated Utica 209-69 and Cobleskill 223-62. The Golden Flyers won 12 events on the day. With their respective victory, both the Golden Flyers improve to 4-4 overall.
The Golden Flyers claimed the top three places in four different events. In the 200 butterfly, sophomore
Shannon O'Malley (2:32.26) led classmate
Cameron Hess (2:34.45) and freshman
Sarah Izzo (2:38.45). In the 500-yard freestyle, senior
Brittany Friedrich was first with a time of 5:39.24, followed by senior
Emma Dorschel with a time of 5:41.21, who was followed by sophomore
Julia Madore with a time of 5:46.38.
In the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore
Elizabeth Carro was first (1:05.13), classmate
Lillian Masters was second (1:07.85), and Hess was third (1:11.97). In the 200 IM, it was Hess who finished first with a time of 2:24.22. Junior
Kimberly Pedrotti was second (2:24.51) and sophomore
Bridget Geary was third (2:25.68).
Nazareth swimmers claimed two of the top three spots in seven additional individual events. In the 1000 freestyle, Friedrich took first (11:26.71) and Madore was second (11:34.9). In the 100-yard backstroke, Smith was first with a time of 1:07.08, followed by senior
Mcleana Schwab, who was second with a time of 1:09.31. Pedrotti and Geary finished one-two in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:14.27 and 1:16.23, respectively. In the 200 backstroke, Carro claimed first (2:21.92) and sophomore
Melissa Wilkinson was second (2:33.24).
Masters (2:06.81) and junior
Renee Stromski (2:10.94) went first and third in the 200 freestyle. Similarly, Schwab (1:00.47) and freshman
Annabel O'Connor (1:01.06) were first and third in the 100 free. Friedrich (2:40.39) and freshman
Erika Holland (2:49.56) were first and third in the 200 breaststroke. Carro added another third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :27.76. Sophomore
Katie Kempf was third in both diving events with scores of 115.25 and 139.75.
The Golden Flyers' women's relays were also successful, placing a pair of teams in the top three spots in both the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay. In the 200 free, Hess, Stromski, Masters, and O'Malley teamed to finish in 1:50.09 to win the event. The team of Schwab, Wilkinson, Madore, and O'Connor was second with a time of 1:53.16. In the 200 medley, Carro, Geary, Holland, and O'Malley combined for a time of 2:02.76 to place second. Schwab, Friedrich, Smith, and Dorschel finished moments later in 2:03.4 for third place.
Nazareth is in action again next Saturday when the Golden Flyers host RIT at 1 p.m.
Ithaca 196, Alfred 100
ALFRED, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team defeated Alfred Saturday afternoon by a score of 196-100 at the Lebohner Pool. The Bombers earned nine total individual first-place finishes on the day, while capturing the top spot in a relay event.
Ithaca opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Kylie Bangs,
Grace Ayer,
Christine Zulkosky and
Lyndsay Isaksen earned first place with a time of 1:53.82.
Zulkosky carried her momentum into the 100-yard breaststroke, as the senior took the top spot with a time of 1:13.44. Isaksen also achieved individual success, finishing first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.16.
Freshman
Nilza Costa had a strong showing in the pool, earning a pair of individual first place finishes in the meet. She started with the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing first with a time of 11:06.78. She continued with a time of 1:04.53 in the 100-yard butterfly for her second first-place finish of the day.
Ayer achieved a first-place time in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 2:17.71, while Sam Reilly and
Meredith Wells contributed to the victory with an individual victory each. Reilly completed the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:18.79, and Wells added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching first in 2:37.99.
The Bombers swept the diving events with
Nickie Griesemer securing the top spots in the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events with a final score of 316.00 and 282.20, respectively. Both scores marked new pool records.
Ithaca returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 25, as the Bombers will host the Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational at the A&E Center Athletics Center. Start time is set for 10 a.m.

Hartwick 154, St. Lawrence 76
CANTON, N.Y. – Hartwick’s women’s swimming and diving team won 11 of the day’s 13 events on Saturday as the Hawks rolled past St. Lawrence University 154-76. The Hawks have now won two straight dual meets and improve to 6-9 on the season.
Senior Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) paced Hartwick on the day with three individual wins. Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) and Rachel Bellis (Candandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) each won two events for the Hawks.
Mathias won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:17.65. She also earned victories in the 200 butterfly (2:20.23) and 500 free (5:33.46).
Agate won the 200 individual medley (2:18.66) and the 200 backstroke (2:18.26) events. Bellis earned wins in the 200 free (2:02.37) and the 100 free (57.05).
Morgan Riggins (Austin, TX/Dripping Springs) and Helen Merkley (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) recorded the remaining two first-place finishes for ’Wick. Riggins earned the top spot in 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:36.93. Merkley won the 50 free in 26.18.
Both relay teams also were winners at the meet. The 200 medley team of Agate, Riggins, Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan), and Merkley secured a time of 1:57.21 to open the meet. To close it, Hayes, Bellis, Kaitlyn Campbell (Bartlett, IL/Glenbard North), and Rhianna Blake (Gales Ferry, CT/Leyard) won the 400 free relay in 3:54.19.
Hartwick wraps up its dual meet season next Saturday at Sally Griffiths Herbert ’99 Aquatic Center against Stevens. The meet will serve as Hartwick’s Senior Recognition Parent Appreciation Meet.
