Records Fall For Women's Track And Field At Ithaca

CLINTON, NY – The Utica College men and women track and field teams competed at the Hamilton College Invitational Saturday at the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.  The UC men were guided by junior Corey Zlatniski's record breaking win in the 800 meter run while junior Sarah Wiatr (Poland, NY/West Canada Valley) led the women's squad with a third place finish in the 400 meter dash.

The Pioneers are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Hanover, NH for the Dartmouth Classic.  The meet will take place at Leverone Field House and is set to begin at 12 p.m.

Zlatnisksi broke UC's previous record of 1:58.5 set back in 2011 by Robert Baird as he clocked a watch of 1:56.05 in the victory.

Zlatniski teamed up with freshmen Samuel Adarkwa, Patrick Claffey and Erik Gleba for a team win in the 4x800 relay with a time of 8:33.04.

Utica's 4x200 relay squad consisting of sophomores Chancellor Harris and Nicodemus Gambill along with new comers James Brown and Jonathan Ramirez finished second with a watch of 1:34.21, falling short of the victory by less than one second (1:33.68). Gambill also placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.14.

Sophomore thrower Sam Kaczmarek tossed the shot put 15.36 meters for a second place tally to pace the men Pioneers.

On the women's side, Wiatr clocked a final time of 1:00.90 in the 400 meter dash while classmate specialist Katherine Pearce (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) leaped to a third place tally in the high jump (1.45m).

Sophomore thrower Bria Hilliard (Bronx, NY/Mother Cabrini) had her own school record (12.89m) broken by classmate Alexis Edwards (Ilion, NY/Ilion)' toss of 12.94 meters in the women's weight throw, but regained her record status later in the event with a hurl of 13.29 to remain the current UC leader in the 20lb. weight throw event.
 
ITHACA, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher College women's track and field team recorded new school marks on Saturday at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational.
 
Sammy Van Gee broke her own school record by less than one second, finishing the 3,000-meter race in 10:44.39 to place sixth overall and record a NYSCTC A standard time.
 
In the field events, Taylor Youngkrans broke the school record yet again and won the weight throw  with a distance of 16.05 meters. Youngkrans ranks No. 15. In the nation.
 
Other highlights included Danyelle Redmond placing seventh in the pole vault at 3.05 meters. The 4x400 relay team of Chelsea GruppSydney SacconeJess Colmerauer and Morgan Mastin came in fifth in a time of 4:09.96, 1.9 seconds off the ECAC-qualifying mark.
 
Select Fisher student-athletes, including Allison Corretore, will participate in the pentathlon on Sunday at Ithaca. Fisher's full squad .
 
ITHACA, N.Y. – Nazareth's track and field teams broke several school records Saturday in Ithaca. Both Golden Flyers' 4x400-meter relay teams set new records. Senior Michaela Gildemeyer set a new record in the 1000-meter run, and junior Tom Sippie broke his own record in the 200-meter dash.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team broke Nazareth's 2013 school record by over three seconds, finishing with a time of 4:05.53. Freshman Samantha Goble had the first leg, followed by classmate Andrea Larnard, senior Michaela Gildemeyer, and senior Hannah Brackley. Gildemeyer placed first in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:06.75. She broke Lauren Jamieson's school record of 3:07.08.

Goble won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.41. Brackley still holds the facility record in the event with a time of :59.53 that she set last year. Larnard was less than a second behind Goble, finishing fourth with a time of 1:03.24.

Nazareth had a pair of runners finish in the top-10 in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore Jamie DiSalvo was ninth with a time of 19:45.7, and junior Blair Meeson was 10th as she crossed the line with a time of 19:55.84. In the 4x200 relay, the Golden Flyers finished sixth with a time of 1:51.27. Sophomore Alex Walker teamed with senior Sibongile Chisi, junior Amanda Entress, and Brackley in the event.

The Golden Flyers also had several top performances in field events. Junior Taylor Pierson was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.25 meters (17ft., 2 3/4 in). In the pole vault, Chisi tied her own school record with a mark of 3.05 meters (10 ft.). Chisi was fifth in the event. Entress added a 10th-place finish in the triple jump with mark of 10.15 meters (33 ft., 3 3/4 in.).

The men's 4x400 relay team broke the 2008 record of 3:25.55 with a time of 3:24.95. Freshman Nick LaBarbera started the relay and was followed by sophomore Matt Battaglia, sophomore Jacob Murray, and junior Tom Sippie. Sippie new record in the 200-meter dash is :22.33, a tenth of a second faster than the school record he set last week. It was only .05 off the facility record time.

In addition to running on the 4x400 relay, Battaglia placed second in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:07.51. He was followed by Murray, who placed ninth with a time of 1:09.68. Freshman Kevin Witt added a 10th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:04.44.

In field events, juniors Luis Rivera and Brandon Vuolo each performed well in the 35-pound weight throw. Rivera was third with a mark of 17.49 meters (57 ft., 4 3/4in.), and Vuolo was eighth with a mark of 14.09 meters (46 ft., 2 3/4 in). Vuolo was just .01 meters away from his school record in the shot put. He finished seventh with a mark of 13.66 meters (44 ft., 9 3/4 in.)In the triple jump, junior Khiary Gayle placed sixth with a mark of 13.34 meters (43ft., 9 1/4in.).

Nazareth is in action again next weekend with the Brockport Mid-Season Classic and Ramampo Indoor Select meets scheduled.
 
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's and women's indoor track teams broke several school records Saturday in a strong showing at the Springfield Invitational.
 
As a team, the men finished in fourth place with 106 points while the women placed sixth with 60 points.
 
Junior Gladys Njoku broke her own school record in the 60m with a time of 8.22, good for second place overall. Sophomore Victoria Taibe made the finals in both the shot-put and the weight throw, finishing in the top five in both.
 
On the men's side, sophomore Brian Fratto took first in the 60m with a school record 7.15 while sophomore Daniel Jacome broke his own school record in the shot-put with a second place mark of 13.75m. Sophomore Nicholas Zickgraf rounded-out the men's highlights with a first place finish 2:34.1 in the 1000m, a new personal best.
 
Both teams will be back in action next weekend with the Ramapo College Select at the N.Y.C. Armory.
 
ITHACA, N.Y.—The women's track and field team hosted their first home meet of the season on Saturday Jan. 31 at Glazer Arena. Ithaca met ECAC qualifying marks in ten different events. Six individuals and three relay teams met conference marks. There was no team scoring for the meet.

Senior Emilia Scheemaker and junior Brandy Smith led the Bombers by surpassing ECAC standards in two events each. Scheemaker qualified in both the triple jump and long jump. Scheemaker reached a distance of 11.60 meters in the triple jump to take first overall and 5.25 meters in the long jump to place third. Brandy Smith passed conference distances in both the shot put and 20-pound weight throws. Smith recorded a second place finish in the shot put by reaching a length of 15.52 meters, blowing past the ECAC mark of 11.53 meters. Brandy Smith then finished third in the weight throw by throwing a distance of 14.84 meters.

Senior Christine Benway also contented ECAC requirements by finishing the 60-meter hurdles in 9.43 seconds. Benway earned a third place finish overall.

Freshman Sierra Grazia competed in the 100-meter race to take second place. Grazia's time of 3:07.74 also met the conference mark.

Junior Alex Rechen qualified for ECAC's for her performance in the pole vault. Rechen's height of 3.35 meters earned her second place in the event.

Seniors Alexa Rick and Emily Smith exceeded conference times in the 3000-meter run. Rick finished in first place with a time of 10:28.68, while Emily Smith followed with a time of 10:30.40 to rank second overall.

Kristina Stockburger's distance of 14.63 meters also surpassed ECAC lengths in the 20-pound weight throws. Stockburger earned a third place finish right behind teammate Brandy Smith.

The Bombers had three relay teams qualify for ECAC's on Saturday.  The relay team of Eliza Dewart,Colleen SmithSophia Feuer and Leigh Martino took a second place finish in the 800-meter relay by clocking a time of 1:46.97. Also competing in the 800-meter relay, Emily WilliamsLizzi DowlingRachel Friedman and Christine Kelly took third place with a time of 1:47.51. Ithaca's final team that qualified for ECAC's was the 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Dewart, Colleen Smith, Feuer, and Martino. This quad took second place again and finished the 1600-meter relay in 4:02.26.

Junior Sarah Werner was just tenths of a second away from the required conference time in the 60-meter dash. Werner ranked fourth by clocking a time of 8.17 seconds.

Following Benway in the 60-meter hurdles, Amber Edwards earned a fifth place finish with a time of 9.56 seconds, also tenths of a second shy of ECAC standards.

Kristin Lynn recorded an eighth place finish of 1:03.47 in the 400-meter dash for the Bombers.

Senior Brittany Greene clocked a time of 1:25.39 to take seventh in the 500-meter dash.

Bombers Rachelle SartoriMichaela Cioffredi and Taryn Cordani placed fourth, sixth and eighth respectively in the 800-meter run. Sartori finished in 2:27.34, while Cioffredi and Cordani earned times of 2:27.87 and 2:29.62.

Junior Anna Fay finished the mile run in 5:25.15 to rank fifth overall.

Fellow junior Tina Gibble led Ithaca in the 5000-meter run with a sixth place finish in 19:41.22. Emily Drain finished in 19:42.95 to place eighth and Carolyn Malone ended with a time of 20:07.58.

Ithaca's relay team made up of Cioffredi, Lynn, Kelly and Grazia, earned a sixth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The team finished in 4:15.87.

Scheemaker, Lexi ClavetGrace Ryan and Rose Paskoff earned an eighth place finish in the 800-meter relay. The squad clocked a time of 1:52.94.

Martino led the Bombers with a fourth place high jump finish. Martino's height of 1.55 meters came 0.05 meters short of another conference standard.

Sophomores Katherine Pitman and Clavet competed in the pole vault reaching marks of 3.20 meters and 3.05 meters. Pitman finished third and Clavet ranked eighth.

Freshman Grace Ryan took seventh in the long jump with a distance of 5.03 meters and fourth in the triple jump with a length of 10.72 meters. Benway followed Ryan in the long jump by taking eighth with 5.07 meters.

Senior Corrine Taylor and freshman Charis Lu finished seventh and eighth in the shot put event. Taylor threw a distance of 10.79 meters and Lu reached 10.72 meters. Taylor also recorded a length of 13.86 meters to rank sixth overall in the weight throws.

Ithaca competes again at home in Glazer Arena on Feb. 7. The Ithaca Quad is set to begin at 11:30 a.m.
 
HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Day two of the Houghton Multi-Event Open Indoor Track and Field meet produced several strong performances by Highlanders athletes.

Athletes from Mansfield University, Alfred University, Alfred State and Messiah College joined the Houghton team in the event at the Kerr-Pegula Field House.

"It was fun that the all the teams at this meet were completely different than last week," said Highlander Head Coach Patrick Hager. "We added some non-traditional events, like the 300m, 600m, and 4x1600m relay to add some variation for our athletes. It proved well worth it as we saw some incredible performances."

Savannah Doviak ran to a school record in the 300m with a time of 44.43 (almost a full second faster than the record).

Houghton set the first facility records in the women's 600m and 4x200m relay.Nikki Garns won the 600m in 1:41.98, shortly after being a part of the winning 4x200m team of Doviak, Garns, Kate Taggart and Fiona Daloia (1:50.72). "Their handoffs were 100 percent better than when we ran a 1:57 with the same team a couple weeks ago," said Hager. 
 
The men saw their first win in the new facility with Jordan Cady winning the long jump in 5.90 meters. Jon Lewis had an exceptional performance in the 600m, with a 5th place finish in 1:29.00.

The team is back in action at the Brockport Invite on Saturday, Feb. 7.
