Six Corvias ECAC Athletes of the Week
Six Empire 8 student-athletes were honored as the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Athletes of the Week in the region for their performances during the week of Oct. 5-11, 2015.
Football – North
Defensive Player of the Week
Logan Murphy – Ithaca College, Sr., Defensive End, Lagrangeville, N.Y.
Murphy had a career day against Hartwick College, recording a career-high four-and-a-half sacks with nine tackles as the Ithaca College football team handed Hartwick a 47-19 loss at Wright Stadium. Murphy's sack total is the second-most sacks in a game by a Division III student-athlete this year, trailing only Stacey Sunnerville (Widener), who had a five-sack game. Murphy also had a career-best six tackles for a loss, which is tied with Josh Schneider (Lakeland) for the most by a Division III student-athlete in the country this year.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Thomas Woodburn – Utica College, Sr., Kicker, West Islip, N.Y.
Woodburn, who entered the weekend leading the nation in field goals per game, was a perfect 5-for-5 on field goal attempts in the Pioneers 22-19 overtime victory at Brockport on Saturday night. He knocked down the game-tying field goal from 34 yards out with one second left in regulation to tie the contest at 19-19, and then made the game-winning field goal in overtime from 35 yards out. He also connected on a career-long 44-yard try in the third quarter to give Utica its first lead of the game.
Men’s Soccer – Upstate
Offensive Player of the Week
Joel Castellini – St. John Fisher College, Gr., Midfield, Baldwinsville, N.Y.
Castellini led Fisher with three goals in a 2-0 week, marking the first wins of the season for the Cardinals. Castellini scored in the eighth and 49th minute in a 4-0 win over Alfred State and netted the second goal in a 3-0 win against Utica.
Men’s Soccer – Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Joseph Catalfamo – St. John Fisher College, Fr., Goalkeeper, Fairport, N.Y.
Catalfamo led Fisher to a perfect 2-0 mark last week, notching two shutouts and seven total saves over the two-game stretch.
Women’s Soccer – Upstate
Defensive Player of the Week
Beth Coppolecchia – Ithaca College, Sr., Goalkeeper, Katonah, N.Y.
Coppolecchia earned two more wins in goal last week as the senior goalie helped extend Ithaca’s winning streak to three games after defeating Hartwick in conference play and downing nationally-ranked R.I.T. Against Hartwick, Coppolecchia was credited with her third shutout of the season after turning away five shots in 90 minutes. She would go on to make six saves against the No. 15 Tigers as Ithaca won, 2-1.
Women’s Volleyball – Metro/Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Hannah Voss – Utica College, Fr., Outside Hitter, St. Louis, Mo.
Voss totaled 29 kills and 27 digs to help Utica go 2-1 last week. On Thursday, she recorded a career-high 17 kills and a .600 hitting percentage as Utica topped SUNY Cobleskill, 3-0. She followed that with seven kills and ten digs to lead Utica to a thrilling 3-2, come-from-behind victory against St. John Fisher. Voss capped off the week with five kills and 10 digs against Elmira.
