The SUNY Cortland and Ithaca College football teams are both receiving votes in the latest D3football.com poll, while Cortland is also receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III poll, which reflect games through Saturday, Oct. 18.

Cortland's defense forced six turnovers and held Alfred University off the board twice in the final five minutes, including a goal-line stand, for 20-14 home victory over the Saxons on Oct. 17.

With the win Cortland improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in Empire 8 play. The Red Dragons sit atop the league standings, a game ahead of both Utica and St. John Fisher (each 3-2 in the league) and a game and a half better than Alfred, Ithaca, Buffalo State and Brockport (each 2-2 in the league).

Ithaca dropped out of the top 25 following a 27-17 loss to The College at Brockport. It was just the forth time in 19 games that Ithaca lost at home.

Ithaca travels to Morrisville State for a 1 p.m. contest Oct. 24, while Cortland hosts Brockport in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
