Cortland Ranked No. 18; Ithaca and Utica Receiving Votes

The SUNY Cortland football team moved up in the latest D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III polls, which reflect games through Saturday, Oct. 3.

The Red Dragons, who were ranked No. 22 in both polls last week, moved up to the No. 18 spot. Ithaca College dropped out of the top 25 but is among teams receiving votes in both polls and Utica College is receiving votes by d3football.com. 

Cortland (5-0) stayed undefeated on the season with its second straight overtime win. Steven Ferreira threw the winning 11-yard touchdown pass to Jake Smith in the first overtime period to defeate Hartwick, 48-45.

Utica junior receiver Jerred Beniquez made the game-winning touchdown grab on the Pioneers first offensive possession of overtime to lift the home team to a thrilling 30-27 victory over Ithaca. UC defeated Ithaca for just second time in program-history and handed the Bombers their first loss of the season.
