ITHACA, N.Y. —The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team is proud to participate in Sunday's (Oct. 11) annual Faceoff for a Cause to benefit the nonprofit organization Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) when the Bombers travel to Siena College for a day of scrimmaging.

Ithaca will play against Skidmore at 11:30 a.m., and Western New England at 2:45 p.m. Admission costs $5 (free for children ages 12 and under), with all gate proceeds going directly to the Wounded Warrior Project®. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the game at Siena Turf Field.

Additionally, fans can purchase Faceoff for a Cause t-shirts, with all monies being donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The event organizers hope to raise at least $20,000 for the organization, which offers assistance to more than 50,000 servicemen and women who have been injured in recent military conflicts. In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Another 320,000 are believed to have experienced a traumatic brain injury while on deployment.

WWP's 20 programs and services are uniquely structured to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.

"We jumped at the opportunity to participate in the Wounded Warrior Project at Siena College," said Jeff Long, a former U.S. Naval Academy All-American who is starting his 29th season leading the Bombers.

"Not only do we get to play some challenging lacrosse, but more importantly, this event is great because we can support an organization that does so much good for those who have served our country in the name of freedom.  We consider it an honor and privilege to step onto the field in Albany on Sunday. It's a day we will cherish."

People can donate to the Wounded Warrior Project's Faceoff for a Cause through the Rally the Troops page, which can be found at https://fundraise.woundedwarriorproject.org/RTT/Fundraising/individual/SienaFOFAC15.

Additionally, a percentage of all gear purchased from the Under Armour Freedom Line is donated back to the Wounded Warrior Project. Gear can be purchased through https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/freedom.

The schools participating in the third annual Faceoff for a Cause include Ithaca, host Siena, Colgate University, Skidmore College, Union College and Western New England.

"The collaboration between the game of lacrosse and Wounded Warrior Project has always made sense," said Adam Silva, chief development officer for WWP. "Lacrosse has a rich tradition in the military. If you look at the growth of the game, where there are veterans, there is the game of lacrosse. WWP is thankful to once again be supported by such an amazing event and grateful to Siena College for hosting it."

A total of $29,540 has been raised for Wounded Warrior Project over the first two years of the event.
