Campbell, Moss Earn Medals At World Indoor Lacrosse Championships
Syracuse, NY -- Former Elmira College men's lacrosse player Scott Campbell '04 and assistant men's lacrosse coach
Donny Moss both left the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (WILC) with some new hardware.
Campbell helped Team Canada defeat the Iroquois Nationals, 12-8, in front a record crowd of over 10,000 at the famed Carrier Dome on September 27th, as the Canadians captured their fourth-straight gold medal.
"It was amazing to win it all in the end against some pretty stiff competition," Campbell said. "I'd never thought I'd have an opportunity like that. It was an amazing surprise and an honor to be selected to play for Team Canada. Winning a gold medal was beyond my wildest dreams."
The defenseman from Markham, Ontario, recorded four assists and collected nine loose balls in the semifinal and final rounds. The Canadians dispatched Team Israel, 19-3, to advance to the gold medal game before beating the Iroquois in the championship. While the gold is the first for Campbell on the international stage, success is nothing new for the 33-year-old; he helped solidify a defensive unit that guided the Rochester Knighthawks to three consecutive National Lacrosse League (NLL) titles from 2012 to 2014.
Less than two months removed from playing in the 2015 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Championship Game with his hometown Rochester Rattlers, Moss was part of the Team USA squad that captured bronze by defeating Israel, 15-4. The bronze marks the fourth consecutive third-place finish for the Americans in the WILC tournament. Moss highlighted his performance by scoring a goal on former NLL Goaltender of the Year Mike Poulin in the 14-7 win over the Czech Republic. The transition defenseman also gathered three loose balls against the Iroquois, the eventual silver medalists, in the preliminary rounds.
"It was a great experience," Moss said. "Playing for Team USA was the best thing that has happened to me at this point in my lacrosse career. A great group of guys, great coaches, and a great organization; I couldn't ask for anymore. I was really lucky and am very thankful for the opportunity."
