HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 11, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team topped Mount Holyoke College 3-1 Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Hoboken.

With the win, Stevens (14-7) advances to the second round where they'll play No. 4 Ursinus College at Ursinus on Saturday. The victory is the first in the tournament for the Ducks since 2010.

Senior Dailyn Brook led the Ducks with a goal and an assist, while junior Nolie Proty and sophomore Victoria Alvarez each chipped-in with a goal of their own. Junior Emily Stukenborg made nine save in goal to earn her 14th win of the season.

As a team, the Ducks outshot Holyoke 19-12, and tallied three more corners.

After an early save for Stukeborg on Holyoke's initial shot, the Ducks jumped out to the early lead with a score from Prouty. After gaining control of the ball from the top of the circle, Prouty fired a ball along the turf to the right side of the cage.

Holyoke answered with the equalizer six minutes later, however the Ducks responded soon after with a goal from Brook off a penalty shot.

The 2-1 score held through the remainder of the half and into the second before Alvarez extended the lead with a goal in the 53rd minute. Sprinting down the left side of the field, Brook sent a diving-cross to Alvarez in the circle where she finished with the one-timer to the right side of the cage.

The goal was Alvarez's 13th of the season, while the assist was Brook's eighth.

Holyoke made a late push with a pair of shots in the final seven minutes, however Stukenbrog made the save on both to seal the win for Stevens.

Saturday's second round game is set for an 11 a.m. start time.
