Brook’s Game-Winner Sends Stevens To E8 Final
ITHACA, N.Y. (November 6, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey senior
Dailyn Brook connected on the game-winning goal in overtime Friday, sending the Ducks to a 2-1 Empire 8 Conference Championship semifinal win over St. John Fisher College.
The victory sends the Ducks to tomorrow's E8 final where they'll square-off against top-seeded Ithaca College.
Brook tallied the Ducks other goal as well with a score near the midway point in the first half, while junior goalie
Emily Stukenborg made one save in goal.
As a team, the Ducks dominated in shots 20-5 while tallying 20 corners to Fisher's three.
After an early offensive barrage from Fisher over the first 13 minutes, the Ducks responded with a pair of shots in the 14th minute to return the fire. The Cardinals were able to withstand it however before breaking through with the game's first goal in the 24th.
The lead held through the remainder of the half and into the second before Stevens connected with the equalizer in the 42nd off a goal from Brook. Junior
Nolie Prouty registered the assist on the score, extending her season total to a team and conference-leading 12.
The Ducks continued the attack with seven unanswered shots following the goal, however Fisher was able to diffuse each situation to send the game into overtime. Once there, the Ducks continued the pressure before being rewarded with Brook's game-winner in the 74th off a pass from sophomore
Victoria Alvarez.
Tomorrow's championship is set to kick-off at 4 p.m. in Ithaca.
