ITHACA, N.Y. (November 7, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team scored three unanswered second-half goals Saturday to capture the Empire 8 Conference Championship, 4-1 over top-seeded Ithaca College.

The title is the first since 2010 for the Ducks, and the first for a three-seed in the history of the championship. Senior Dailyn Brook was named the most valuable player after tallying nine points off four goals and an assist in the two games.

The win clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, and marked the first time a three-seed has captured a title in any fall conference championship since 2010.

Brook led the Ducks Saturday with two goals and an assist, while sophomore Cassidy O'Hearn and Victoria Alvarez chipped-in with one goal each. Junior Emily Stukenborg made four saves in goal to earn the win.

As a team, the Ducks edged Ithaca in shots 15-11, including a 10-5 margin in shots on goal.

O'Hearn got the Ducks on the board first off a shot from 14-yards out, however Ithaca's Caitlin O'Brien was able to answer four minutes later with the equalizer. The deadlock continued through the rest of the half before Brook put Stevens back on top early in the second.

Off a feed from junior Nolie Prouty, Brook sent one to the back of the cage from 10-yards out for her 13th goal of the season. Alvarez added to the lead 10 minutes later off a pass from Brook, before Brook put the game away from good with a goal in the 60th.

Ithaca attempted to get back into it with eight minutes to go, however four of their shots went wide, while Stukenborg made the save on the fifth to seal the Stevens win. Katie Lass made five saves for the Bombers.

The Ducks will find out who and where they'll play their tournament game with tomorrow's NCAA release.
