EDINBORO, PA – Alfred University sophomore Seth Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) took first place in the indoor heptathlon at Edinoro (PA) University, breaking the AU school record in the process.

The two-day event concluded Saturday, with Spicer moving from second place on Friday's opening day into first on Saturday. He finished with 4,567 points, edging Slippery Rock University's Nathan Zigler, who finished with 4,391. His 4,567 points sent a new school record.

In addition to breaking the school in the heptathlon, Spicer also set a new school record in the pentathlon. The NCAA switched from the pentathlon to the heptathlon for its official indoor multi event five years ago. Spicer's scores in the five former pentathlon events -- 60-meter hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put and 1,000 meters -- totaled 3,433 points, 12 points better than the former AU record.
