Hilbert slips past Houghton in non-league action 2/12/2015 8:01:27 AM HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Junior Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian) finished with a career-high 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to spell victory for the Highlanders as Houghton lost 57-54 to Hilbert in women's basketball action Wednesday night. The Highlanders jumped out to a 10-2 lead and -- after withstanding a run by the Hawks to cut the margin to three -- took a 30-19 lead into the locker room. Pipher led the way with 16 points at the break. The second half slowly went in favor of the Hawks as the Highlanders struggled to find any flow on the offensive end. The hosts quietly chipped away at the lead, trimming the deficit to four points with just under eight minutes to go and finally tying the score at 44 with 4:32 left. The final minutes saw four ties and four lead changes, with the Hawks pushing their advantage to as many as six points at the one minute mark. A bucket by Pipher and two free throws from Hannah Fink (Coudersport, PA, Coudersport HS) knocked the lead down to two, but Hilbert converted one of two from the charity stripe then got a key turnover with seven seconds left on the next Highlander possession to close it out. In addition to Pipher's strong play, the Highlanders got 12 points and 15 rebounds from Christel Enriquez-Fisher(Colorado Springs, CO, William Mitchell HS). Houghton shot just 23 percent from the field in the second half and was 0-for-7 from long range.
