Houghton Earns 13-6 Win Over Franciscan
BETHANY, W. Va. -- Paul Chapman (Kemptville, ON, Canada, North Greenville District High School) scored seven goals to lead Houghton men's lacrosse to a 13-6 win over Franciscan University on Thursday. The game was played at Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia.
Houghton grabbed a 3-2 lead after one quarter, with Chapman,
Justin Flint (Endicott, NY , Union Endicott High School) and
Jacob Samuelson (Lander, PA , Homeschooled ) each scoring. Franciscan was able to pull ahead 4-3 with two quick goals in the first minutes of the second quarter, but Houghton would close the half on a 6-1 run to take a 9-5 lead into the break. Chapman scored four times in the second quarter.
Josh Bailey (Millerton, PA , Williamson High SSchool ) and
Sean Daigler (Elma, NY , Iroquois High School) tallied the other two goals.
After all the scoring in the first half, the teams played scoreless in the third quarter. However, Houghton found the scoring touch again over the final 15 minutes, outscoring the Barons 4-1 to grab the win. Chapman and Daigler scored two goals apiece for the Highlanders.
Jordan Warren (Chambersburg, PA, Ft. Belvoir School for Boys/University of Illinios) started in goal, making four saves and allowing five goals in two quarters of action.
Josh Haingray (Houghton, NY , Houghton Academy ) came on in the second half, allowing one goal and making six stops.
The Highlanders 5-for-9 on man-up chances and held a 50-48 advantage in shots.
Houghton (1-1) is back in action on Saturday at Thiel College.
