The Highlanders softball team fell to 0-6 on the year after playing two contests Thursday in Clermont, Fla.

Hanover 12, Houghton 3

Hanover College jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead after two innings of play and the Panthers never looked back. Hanover led the whole game to earn the 12-3 win over the Highlanders. Georgianna Stoj led Houghton, going 2-for-3 with two singles.

Lyndon State 6, Houghton 5

The Highlanders fell just shy of their first win of the year in a 6-5 loss to Lyndon State. Tied with four runs apiece, Houghton was up to bat using the international tie breaker, meaning each team starts with a runner on second base.

With Sarah Beirne on second base, the Highlanders played small ball. Adrean Tiffany laid down a sac bunt to move Beirne over to third. Stoj recorded a base hit to give the Highlanders a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the eighth. The Hornets scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the victory.

Houghton faces Capital University and Alma College at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively, on Friday to continue its spring break trip.
