Men's & Women's Indoor Compete At NYSCTC Championship
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Utica College men's and women's track and field team kicked off the 2015 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships Friday at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Both teams are currently in a tie for seventh place as the women have totaled 13 points while the men presently have nine after day one.
The Pioneers are right back in action Saturday for the final day of the NYSCTC Championships. Saturday's events are set to start at 10 a.m. at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center.
Freshman jumper
Michael Visco (Amsterdam, NY /Broadalbin-Perth) guided the men as he placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.68 meters, collecting three points.
The UC 4000 distance medley relay team, consisting of
Corey Zlatniski (Mattituck, NY/Mattituck),
John Vega (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip),
Kyle Cairns (Midland Park, NJ/Midland ),
Jamie McNamara (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield),
Samuel Adarkwa (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes) and
Patrick Claffey (Burlington, CT/Lewis Mills), also tallied three points with a time of 10:35.95. The six man squad finished sixth, out of 13 teams.

James Brown (Wappingers Falls, NY/Beacon )teamed up for a sixth place tally and three points in the 800 relay as they clocked a time of 1:32.21.
On the women's side, throwers Alexis Edwards and Bria Hilliard combined for seven of the women's 13 points on day one. Edwards placed fifth with a toss of 15.05 meters while Hilliard hurled the weight 14.57 meters for a sixth place finish.
Sarah Wiatr collected four points in the long jump as she soared 5.35 meters placing fifth, out of 21 competitors while Ashton Villeneuve posted a seventh place finish in the 5000 meter run as she totaled two points with a clock of 18:37.88.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Alfred University sophomore
Mary Baughman (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta)won the 5,000-meter race on the first day of the New York State indoor track and field championships at RIT.
Baughman won the 5,000-meter run in 17:45.10, which shattered her school record time of 17:58.32 she set at the Empire 8 Conference championships Feb. 14. The state men's and women's championships are being held today and Saturday (Feb. 27 and 28) at RIT. Several other Saxons turned in solid performances in Friday's opening action.
Also on the women's side, senior
Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) turned in the fastest preliminary times in both the 60-meter dash (7.79 seconds) and 200-meter dash (25.81 seconds) on Friday. She will be the top seed in both events when the finals are run Saturday. Freshman
Mijoi Powell (Rochester, NY/Mercy) ran an 8.19 60-meter preliminary, eighth-fastest heading into the finals.

The Alfred men were led by sophomore
Jeffrey Nunez (Wurtsboro, NY/Ellenville), sixth in the weight throw (15.44 meters); and freshman
Alex Hall (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford), 17
th in the 5,000-meter run (16:16.91). Junior
Gregory Matos (Bronx, NY/ELLIS Prep) was third in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash (50.79 seconds). The 400-meter finals will be Saturday.
A trio of Saxons – senior
Mykel Ferguson (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), freshman
Seth Spicer(Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) and junior
Nathan Epolito (Depew, NY/Depew) – competed in the first four events of the men's heptathlon.
Ferguson was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (7.54 seconds); eighth in the long jump (5.65 meters); fifth in the shot put (10.30 meters); and fourth in the high jump (1.71 meters). Spicer was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (7.62 seconds); ninth in the long jump (5.63 meters); second in the shot put (12.39 meters); and fourth in the high jump (1.71 meters). Epolito was 10
th in the 60-meter hurdles (7.89 seconds); 10
th in the long jump (5.46 meters); and seventh in the shot put (9.63 meters).
After four events, Spicer is in fourth place (2,365 points); Ferguson is in sixth (2,268) and Epolito is in 12
th (1,528). The heptathlon concludes Saturday with the 60-meter dash, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's track and field teams were in action Friday as they opened the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships, hosted by RIT. Friday's top performances were by juniors
Luis Rivera and
Taylor Pierson, who both collected second-place finishes in their respective events. In the men's 35-pound weight throw, Rivera had a mark of 18.28 meters (59 ft., 11 3/4 in.), while Pierson had a mark of 5.41 meters (17 ft., 9 in.) in the women's long jump. The meet resumes Saturday.
Rochester leads the men's meet with 52 total team points. Ithaca is second with 37 points while RPI is third with 29 points. Nazareth's men's team is tied for seventh with Utica. Each team has tallied nine team points.
In the men's weight throw, Rivera was edged by RPI's Tyler Yeastedt, who had a throw of 18.31 meters (60 ft., 7/8 in.). Rivera's school-record in the event is 18.44 meters (60 ft., 6 in.). His second-place finish gave the Golden Flyers eight team points. Classmate
Brandon Vuolo also competed in the event and was 14th overall with a throw of 13.81 meters (45 ft., 3 2/3 in.).
On the track, Nazareth's distance medley relay team was eighth with a time of 10:42.34, which earned one team point. Sophomore
Richardson Pierre was 12th in the 60-meter dash with a time of :7.32 seconds. In the 5,000-meter run, junior
Patrick Neureuter was 18th (16:22.04). Junior
Tom Sippie, who has the school-record of :48.71 in the 400-meter dash, did not compete in the event's preliminaries. The top time in the prelims was :49.30.
Similar to the Golden Flyers' men's team, Nazareth's women's team stands in a tie for seventh overall with Utica as both teams have recorded seven points. Ithaca leads with 80 team points, followed by St. Lawrence with 46 points and RIT with 28 points.
In the women's long jump, St. Lawrence's Divya Biswal took first with a mark of 5.64 meters (18ft., 6 in.) to claim first over Pierson. Pierson's second-place finish provided Nazareth with eight points. Classmate
Amanda Entress was 16th overall with a mark of 4.91 meters (16 ft., 1 1/4 in.). Senior
Sibongile Chisi's mark of 2.9 meters (9 ft., 6 1/4 in.) put her ninth in the pole vault.
Senior
Hannah Brackley placed first in the 400-meter preliminary. She crossed the line with a time of :58.38. Her school-record is :57.86. The women's distance medley team recorded five points with a fourth-place finish. The Golden Flyers crossed the line with a time of 12:38.11. It broke the school-record of 12:46.49 that had stood for five years and was also set at RIT. The Golden Flyers' 4x200 relay team, consisting of

Sarah Williams, Entress, and Chisi, finished ninth with a time of 1:52.18. Walker and classmate
Jamie DiSalvo also competed in individual track events. Walker was 11th in the 60-meter dash (:8.27), and DiSalvo was 19th in the 5,000-meter run (19:33.82).
Following the NYSCTC Championships, the Golden Flyers are in action again March 6th-7th for the ECAC Championships at the New York Armory.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The St. John Fisher College indoor track and field squads had a strong showing on the first day of the NYSCTC Championship Friday, held at Rochester Institute of Technology. Several Fisher athletes will be back in action tomorrow to compete in their respective finals. The women's team is currently in fifth place with 21 points, while men's team is in sixth place with 12 points.
After the first four events in the heptathlon,
Devin Cornelius is sitting in first pllace. Cornelius placed first in the 60 dash (7.32 seconds), the long jump (6.48 meters), and the high jump (1.83 meters) while racking up a third place nod in the shot put (11.39 meters).
Joe D'Agostino broke the school record in the 200 prelim with a time of 22.40 to qualify for the final tomorrow. That time currently ranks 25th in the nation among Division III competition.
On the women's side,
Morgan Mastin blistered in the top heat with a time of 26.60 seconds in the 200 dash to break the school record and qualify for tomorrow's finals. She also broke the school record in the 60-meter dash, earning a spot in tomorrow's final.
Sammy VanGee shattered the school record in the 5,000, with a time of 18:28.75 to place fifth overall and qualify for ECACs.
The distance medley relay of
Sydney Saccone,
Ronni Ehlers, Katlyn Shippy and
Sarah Coon pegged their fastest time of the season, a 12:44.10 to place in sixtth.
In field action,
Alyssa Mountain qualified for ECACs in the weight throw with a toss of 14.20 meters to place ninth.
Taylor Youngkrans finished in second with a throw of 15.60 meters.
Allison Corretore set a personal-best time in the 800 and earned a spot on the medal stand with an eighth-place finish in the pentathlon.
ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Ithaca College men's track & field team competed at the NYSCTC Indoor Championship on Friday, Feb. 27 at RIT's Gordon Field House. After day one of the championship, Ithaca is third overall in team scoring with 38.5 points out of 11 institutions.
The Bombers took first in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:30.62. The relay team consisting of senior Rashaad Barrett, juniors Aaron Matthias and Jordan Smith, and senior Kyle Mackinnon met ECAC requirements with their performance.
Junior Stephen Gomez led the Bombers with a second place finish in the 5,000-meter run. SophomoreSean Phillips and freshman Tim Chappell followed in fourth and fifth place. Gomez clocked a time of 15:21.06, while Phillips finished in 15:22.26 and Chappell in 15:29.45. Both Gomez and Phillips qualified for ECACs.
Ithaca placed fourth in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:29.05. The relay team, which consisted of senior Dennis Ryan, junior Larkin Bohanan, freshman Gerardo Munoz and sophomoreBrendan Davis met ECAC standards.
Junior Aaron Matthias secured a fourth place finish in the long jump, reaching 6.79 meters to surpass ECAC-qualifying standards.
Barrett currently sits in second after the 60-meter dash prelims with an ECAC time of 6.93 seconds. Matthias is fourth in the 200-meter dash prelims in an ECAC-qualifying mark of 22.58 seconds, while Barrett is seventh at 22.88.
Freshman Seth Abbott is eighth after the first day of the heptathlon with 2062 points, while sophomoreAndrew Ward is ninth with 1925 and classmate Tyler Denn-Thiele is 10th with 1759.
Day Two of the NYSCTC Championships resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca College women's track & field team competed on Friday, Feb. 27 at the NYSCTC Indoor Championship in the Gordon Field House at RIT. After the first day, Ithaca leads ten other schools with 80 points. The Bombers have a 34 point margin over RPI, who is currently in second place with 46 points.
Natalie Meyer earned a second place finish in the pentathlon with a score of 3,012 points.
Brianna Hayes followed in sixth after scoring 2,789 points.
Junior
Alex Rechen topped the pole vault with a height of 3.35 meters.
Katherine Pitman also reached 3.35 meters but finished third on attempts. Both Rechen and Pitman's performances qualified for ECACs. Teammates
Amanda Zaput hit 3.30 meters to place fourth, while Lexi Calvet and Beth Schomp tied for fifth after clearing 3.05 meters.
Senior
Christine Benway finished third in the long jump after marking a personal best distance of 5.40 meters. Fellow senior,
Emilia Scheemaker took fourth with 5.37 meters and Meyer reached a length of 5.22 meters to place sixth. All three Bombers met ECAC qualifying marks with their distances.

Emily Smithranked seventh with a time of 12:45.79.

Leigh Martino and
Emily Williams made up the 800-meter relay team that took second in 1:46.36.
Both the DMR and 800-meter relay teams hit ECAC qualifying marks.
Senior
Kristina Stockburger took first place in the weight throws by reaching 15.62 meters.
Brandy Smith finished third overall with a distance of 15.47 meters.
Yvonne Palacios threw a distance of 14.37 to rank eighth. Stockburger, Smith and Palacios all qualified for ECACs in the weight throws.
Juniors
Sarah Werner and
Lizzi Dowling both hit ECAC qualifiers in the 60-meter dash preliminaries. Both Wener and Dowling clocked times of 8:02 seconds.
Eliza Dewart met ECAC qualifying times in both the 200-meter dash preliminaries with 26.35 seconds and 400-meter dash preliminaries with 59.96 seconds.
Benway qualified for the championship in the 60-meter hurdle prelims as well, with a time of 9.34 seconds .
Day two of the NYSCTC Championship will resume tomorrow, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m.
