ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Alfred University senior Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) swept the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash Saturday on the second and final day of the New York State indoor track and field championships, held at RIT.
 
The AU women scored 38 points to place eighth among the 12 teams competing in the state championships, while the Alfred men finished tied for 10th with 23 points.
 
Hillman, the defending state indoor champ in the 60-meter dash, won that race in 7.74 seconds. She won her first state indoor 200-meter title, blowing away the field in a school-record 25.63 seconds, which was nearly a second faster than the runner-up from Ithaca. For her efforts, Hillman was named Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the women's state championships.
 
Hillman was one of several members of the AU men's and women's teams turn in solid performances on Saturday. Sophomore Mary Baughman (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), the winner of the women's 5,000-meter race on Friday, ran the 3,000-meter race on Saturday and placed fifth in 10:25.26. On the men's side, AU junior Gregory Matos (Bronx, NY/ELLIS Prep) was second in the 400-meter dash (50.60 seconds).
 
With the ECAC indoor championships (March 7 and 8) still on the schedule, Hillman stands a solid chance of qualifying for NCAA Division III national championships in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Her 60-meter dash time ranks 10th in the country and her 200-meter time ranks 11th. The top 16 in each event qualify for the national championship meet, which is  is March 14 and 15 in Lincoln, NE.
 
Other top performers for the AU women's Saturday were: freshman Mijoi Powell (Rochester, NY/Mercy), seventh in the 60-meter dash (8.29 seconds); and senior Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), 11th in the triple jump (10.45 meters). The team of freshman Rachel Houghton (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), Powell, Pettit and sophomore Marissa Colburn (Bridgeport, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) took ninth in the 4X400-meter relay (4:22.69).
 
For the Saxon men, sophomore D'Mitri Simmons (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) was 14th in the triple jump (12.11 meters), while junior Ethan Foster (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) was 14th in the 800-meter run (2:04.48).
 
The AU men ran two relays Saturday. The team of freshman Matt Roder (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), sophomore Kyle Gallo (Ontario, NY/Wayne), and freshmen Alexander Kenney(Trumansburg, NY/Dickerson) and Erik Diehl (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) took 10th in the 4X800-meter relay (8:25.32); Matos, seniors Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) and Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing) and Foster took ninth in the 4X400-meter relay in 3:34.22.
 
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth freshman Nick LaBarbera was named Rookie of the Meet after posting a record-breaking time Saturday to win the 500-meter dash as the Golden Flyers' track and field teams completed the second day of competition at the NYSCTC Championships at RIT's Gordon Field house.

LaBarbera's winning time of 1:05.58 was more than a second faster than the previous Nazareth record of 1:06.78, set by Jake Lafaver at RIT two years ago. Nazareth finished in ninth place in the men's team standings with 37 points. The University of Rochester won the event with 147 points. Nazareth placed seventh in the women's competition with 47 points. Ithaca finished first with 204.5.

In the men's meet, junior Khiary Gayle won the triple jump with a leap of 13.86 meters (45 feet, 5 3/4 inches). Sophomore Matt Battaglia finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.17, a couple of ticks shy of his personal-best time of 1:58.03, from the Empire 8 Conference meet two weeks ago. Junior Brandon Vuolo competed for Nazareth in the shot put and finished seventh with a toss of 13.58 meters (44 feet, 6 3/4 inches).

LaBarbera also ran for the Golden Flyers in the 4 x 400-meter relay that finished fifth in 3:30.60. Battaglia and fellow sophomore Jacob Murray also competed along with freshman Martin Dearaway.

In the women's competition, senior Michaela Gildemeyer repeated as champion in the 800-meter run with a personal-best indoor time of 2:18.21. Freshman Kimmy Lovett placed fifth in the same event in 2:23.73, nearly 10 seconds faster than her time from the Empire 8 meet two weeks ago. Gildemeyer also helped Nazareth post a school-record time of 4:03.62 to place second in the 4 x 400-meter relay. Freshmen Samantha Goble and Andrea Larnard also ran along with senior Hannah Brackley.

Goble also had a personal-best time of 1:19.85 to finish fifth in the 500-meter dash and Brackley finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of :58.56 after running :58.38 in Friday's prelims.
 
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The St. John Fisher College men's indoor track and field team enjoyed its best finish at the New York State Collegiate Track Championship over the weekend, as the Cardinals placed sixth overall with 65 points.

Fisher came up big in the 60-meter hurdles as Chris Wehner finished in second place (8.65) for an ECAC-qualifying time, while Peter Girardi earned a fourth-place nod (8.71).  Willliam Sterriker was close behind in a time of 9.18 seconds good for a seventh-place finish.

Devin Cornelius earned 10 points for the Cardinals by winning the heptathlon. The junior registered 4,897 points in the event, finishing first in four of the six events including the 1,000 meter-run on Saturday in a time of 2:46.42. 

Joe D'Agostino picked up six points with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 7.16 seconds.  He also finished in second place in the 200 meter dash after clocking 22.45 seconds, an ECAC-qualifying time.

Senior Evan Magnussen broke the Fisher record in the 3,000 with a time of 8:51.35, good for eighth overall.

The 4x200 relay team of Girardi, D'Agnostino, Eric Riley and Trevor Wilkes ran a ECAC-qualifying time of 1:31.52 to earn a second-place finish.

In field action Riley jumped to a second place finish with 1.98 meters. In the high jump and earned a fifth place in the long jump (6.78) both ECAC qualifying marks.
Brandon Naylor finished sixth in the shot put.

Fisher will be taking several athletes next week to the ECAC Championship held at Armory Track and Field in New York City.
 
ROCHESTER, NY - The Utica College men's and women's track and field team wrapped up the 2015 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships Saturday at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The men finished seventh (57 points), out of 13 teams, while the women placed ninth (23 points), out the 12 team field.

UC returns to action this weekend as the squads head downstate for the 2015 ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The championships will be held on Friday Mar. 6th and Saturday Mar. 7th at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York, NY.

Junior Corey Zlatniski (Mattituck, NY/Mattituck) was victorious in the 800 meter run as he collected 10 points while setting a new school-record with a clock of 1:55.72.

Zlatniski also led the 4x800 meter relay team to a school-record time as he was accompanied by freshmen Erik Gleba (Cassville, NY/Sauquoit Valley)Karsten Barbagelata(Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake ) and sophomore Patrick Claffey (Burlington, CT/Lewis Mills). The squad etched a clock of 8:17.98 into the record books.

The UC throwing unit totaled 16 points in the shot put as all three throwers made the podium.  Sophomore standout Sam Kaczmarek (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor ) took first place (10 points) with a toss of 14.94 followed by Sam Bonk (Williamsville, NY/Clarence) who placed fourth (five points) and Andrew Russell (Watertown, NY/Watertown) who finished eighth (one point).

Freshman Nicodemus Gambill (Rochester, NY/East High) grabbed four points for the men in the 60 meter dash while registering a time of 7.17, placing fifth.

Freshman jumper Michael Visco (Amsterdam, NY /Broadalbin-Perth) posted five points, in two events, as he garnered fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.36 meters.  Visco also placed sixth in the long jump on Friday with a leap of 6.68 meters, collecting three points.

On the women's side, junior star jumper Sarah Wiatr combined for 12 points in her two respective events.  Wiatr placed second in the triple jump on Saturday with a soar of 11.78 meters and also grabbed four points on Friday in the long jump as she soared 5.35 meters, placing fifth.

Throwers Alexis Edwards and Bria Hilliard combined for seven of the women's 13 points on day one.  Edwards placed fifth with a toss of 15.05 meters while Hilliard hurled the weight 14.57 meters for a sixth place finish.

Junior distance Ashton Villeneuve posted a seventh place finish in the 5000 meter run on Friday as she totaled two points with a clock of 18:37.88.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's track & field team completed the NYSCTC Championships on Saturday at RIT in second place overall out of 11 teams with 110 points. Ithaca totaled nine ECAC-qualifying marks on Saturday.

Junior Andrew Brandt won the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 2.03 meters. Brandt matched his best performance in the high jump from a week ago.

The 4x400-meter relay squad bested the field with a time of 3:27.18 to qualify for ECAC's. The team consisted of junior Jordan Smith, freshman Gerardo Munoz, junior John Fausol and senior Kyle Mackinnon.

Senior Rashaad Barrett posted a runner-up showing in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.00 seconds to qualify to meet ECAC standards.

The 4x800-meter relay team of junior Larkin Bohanan, Mann, sophomore Brendan Davis and Ryan finished as runners-up with a time of 8:00.46 which met ECAC standards.

Senior Dennis Ryan was another ECAC qualifier for Ithaca in the 1,000-meter run with a third place showing in a time of 2:32.66. Junior Aaron Matthias clocked 22.78 seconds in the 200-meter dash to place third, while Barrett took sixth in 23.35 seconds.

Sophomore Sean Phillips ran a time of 4:21.58 to meet ECAC standards in the mile and finished third overall. Junior Mason Mann was another third place performer in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:01.02 to qualify for ECAC's, while Munoz crossed in an ECAC time of 1:01.13 to finish fourth in the 500.

Junior Stephen Gomez continued the solid outing for Ithaca with another ECAC mark in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:49.57 to finish seventh. Freshman Seth Abbott also took seventh overall in the heptathlon with 3952 points. Abbott highlighted his heptathlon with a third place showing in the high jump at 1.74 meters and fourth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:50.45.

Ithaca returns to action on March 6-7 at the ECAC Championships in New York City.
