Stevens Falls in Tight Battle at Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 28, 2015) – Junior goalie
Austin Boyd made 13 saves and six different players scored goals, but the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team dropped a low-scoring, tight battle at Springfield College Saturday, 7-6.
The Ducks are now 2-2 overall with the two losses coming by a combined three goals. Springfield is now 2-1.
Junior attack
Andrew Scrutchfield gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead 1:59 in, but the Pride scored three of the first quarter's final four scores to take a 3-2 advantage into the second.
The Ducks countered with a 3-0 run to go on top 5-3 with 10:47 left in the opening half as sophomore midfielder

Springfield closed the half with two scores – the second coming with just five seconds on the clock – to tie the game at five heading into the intermission.
The Pride then scored the only goal of the third quarter and went on top 7-5 with a marker 1:07 into the fourth.
Junior midfielder Matt Ferrentini ended a scoring drought of 37:51 for the Ducks with an unassisted goal at 2:56 of the final period, giving the Ducks a chance to tie.

Jeff Wyckoff gained possession for the Ducks with a ground-ball-pickup, but unfortunately they were unable to come up with the equalizer falling by the 7-6 final.
The Pride held at 38-31 edge in shots and held the Ducks to 13-of-22 on clear attempts. Springfield owned a slight 29-27 edge in ground balls, and neither team converted on two man-up chances. The Ducks won 9-of-17 faceoffs and put 14 shots on target.

Sophomore attack Dom Abate led the Pride with three points (two goals, one assist), and junior goalie Kevin Ostrom made eight stops.
The Ducks will look to get back into the win column when they host No. 2 Tufts University March 7 at 12 p.m. in Hoboken.
