Fisher Wins; Ithaca Defeated
ST. JOHN FISHER 6, Brockport 4
The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team converted four of its six extra-man opportunities en route to a 6-4 road victory Tuesday over The College at Brockport.
With the win Fisher improves to 3-0 on the season, while Brockport falls to 0-4.
Fisher scored the first four goals of the game, all in the opening quarter. Matt Collicchia started the run for Fisher off an assist from
Nick Rossi almost five minutes into the game.
Freshman
Christopher Buschi tallied his first career-goal to put Fisher ahead 2-0. The Cardinals then used two man-up goals at the hands of
Matthew Condon to up their lead to 4-0.
After an early goal by the Golden Eagles in the second quarter, Fisher continued its hot streak on the man-up as Rossi scored the final goal of the half to give Fisher a 5-1 halftime lead.
Rossi made good on another extra man opportunity with 5:46 to play in the third quarter to push Fisher's lead to 6-1. The senior finished with two goals and two assists.
Brockport added a late goal in the third quarter and managed to cut the lead to 6-4 with :28 seconds to play but that is as close as they would come.
Andrew Rosso added a pair of assists for Fisher.
Tanner Swan improved to 3-0 on the season after making a career-high 12 saves.
University of Tampa 9, ITHACA 8 (OT)
The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-8 game in overtime at the University of Tampa on Tuesday afternoon. Tampa is ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II rankings by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and Ithaca is ranked 12th in the Division III poll.
As this game was played against a Division II institution it will count toward Ithaca's statistics and overall record, but will not be factored when considering the Bombers for NCAA Tournament eligibility.
Ithaca built a 6-1 lead in the first half.
Jake Cotton scored three times and
James Manilla,
Jack Shumway and
Grant Osadchey each scored once in the opening 30 minutes.
Tampa scored the first five goals of the second half to tie the score. Ithaca led 7-6 on a goal from
Jordan Brett before Tampa scored twice to lead 8-7. Shumway scored for Ithaca with 3:42 left in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it to overtime. Tampa scored 1:13 into overtime to win the game 9-8.
Ithaca is 3-2 overall and Tampa is 6-1 on the season.
Cotton had three goals and Shumway had a goal and two assists for Ithaca.
Scott Sidnam started in goal for Ithaca and made six saves in 37 minutes of action.
Jack Deragon played eight minutes and had three saves, and
Justin Isaacs played the final 15:40 and made six saves and took the loss.
