E8 Spotlight: Tyler Reese

Tyler Reese (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) is a senior dual athlete (field hockey and lacrosse) at Houghton College who major in Biology (pre-veterinary).

Why did you choose to attend Houghton?
I applied because my parents were alumni. And then I was invited to interview with the honors program and I fell in love with the campus and the people. The next thing I knew the field hockey coach contacted me and I was playing in college and then took on lacrosse in the spring.
What has been the greatest part of your experience as a college athlete?
Preseason. It’s so hard, one of the most difficult physical and mental periods of the whole season. Get to bond with teammates and build the team dynamics. At the end you feel very accomplished
Who has been the most influential person during your athletic career? Why?
Coach Rachel Snelgrove. She pushed me to be the best athlete I could be and helped me overcome a lot of mental blocks I had set up for myself. She really inspired me on and off the field.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I hope to be a practicing Veterinarian.
What do you like most about competing in the E8?
The competition. Games are more fun when there is a challenge.
What do you do in your spare time?
I like to do a lot of creative things. I have sketch books to like to draw in and I enjoy creative writing.
Top 3 things on your bucket list?
a. Go abroad again, hopefully in Scotland
b. Leave the east coast and try living somewhere new
c. Skydiving
