Ithaca and Houghton Drop 7-1 Contests
ITHACA
The Ithaca College baseball team suffered a 7-1 loss to Chapman at W.O. Hart Park on Wednesday evening in Orange, Calif. Ithaca is now 0-4 on the season, while Chapman improves to 8-5.
The Bombers fell behind, 1-0, after one inning of play, but tied the game up in the top of the second on an RBI groundout from junior
Cameron Oathout. Sophomore
Trevor Thompson scored on the play.
Chapman regained the lead with two runs in the fifth on a double and Ithaca error. The Panthers scored once more in the sixth and two runs in the eighth to account for the final score. Chapman's final four runs scored were all unearned.
Senior
Andrew Sanders was handed the loss despite a solid performance on the mound. Sanders pitched seven innings and scattered eight hits with two strikeouts. He also did not surrender a walk and gave up four runs (two earned).
Freshman
Jim Sinopoli and senior
Jared Amory combined to pitch the final inning for Ithaca. Sinopoli gave up one hit in a 1/3 of an inning, while Amory tossed the other 2/3 of an inning and also allowed a hit.
Thompson led Ithaca's offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a run scored and stolen base.
HOUGHTON
The Highlanders baseball team lost 7-1 today to the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers at Houghton.
The Highlanders got on the board first when
Michael Knapp(Brockport, NY) ripped an RBI double into right center that scored
Christopher McKay (Oakville, ON, Canada) from second base.
The Highlanders held the lead until the top half of the fourth when the Tigers put 2 runs on the board to take a 2-1 lead.
After another scoreless inning for the Highlanders the Tigers took advantage and scored 5 runs in the top of the fifth to jump out to a 7-1 lead.
From there the Highlanders and Tigers played scoreless baseball.
Freshman pitcher Brian Reed for RIT was credited with the win and
Seth Cornell (Almond, NY) was handed the loss.
In the box score the Highlanders were led by McKay who went 1 for 2 with 2 walks and scored the Highlanders only run of the game.
