NEW ORLEANS (March 11, 2015) – Juniors Gladys Njoku and Amy Regan of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's indoor track and field team were named Atlantic Region athletes of the year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday.

Njoku was selected as the Atlantic region women's field athlete of the year for her performance in the high jump this year. At the Ramapo College Indoor Select meet back on February 7, she jumped a height of 1.80-meters, which ranks No. 4 all-time in Division III history. This height leads the nation by seven centimeters and she is undefeated against DIII athletes in the high jump in 2015. She has won five of her last seven high jump competitions. Last year, the Cedar Grove native finished runner-up in the high jump at the NCAA DIII Indoor Nationals, jumping 1.75-meters but falling in a dramatic jump-off.

Regan was chosen Atlantic region women's track athlete of the year. She took home the Empire 8 conference track athlete of the week honors this week, coming off a first place finish in the one mile run at the ECAC championships last Saturday. At The Armory Collegiate Invitational, she bested a field of Division I athletes in the 5,000-meter. The Green Brook native is currently ranked No. 1 nationally in this event, and her time of 16:40.84 is the fifth best time ever ran in DIII history. She set an E8 record in both the mile and 5,000m at the conference championship meet in February. Regan also is ranked third nationally in the 3,000-meter.

Njoku and Regan will be competing this weekend in the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships this weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. Regan will run the 5,000m Friday night and the 3,000 Saturday afternoon while Njoku will compete Saturday morning in the high jump.
