Rechen Named All-American
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Alex Rechen of the Ithaca College women's track & field team competed in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships, which is being held at the JDL Fast Track.
Rechen successfully cleared 3.40 meters on her first attempt. During the next round, Rechen surpassed 3.50 meters on the third opportunity, and then went on to clear 3.70 meters on her first effort. Rechen had three attempts at 3.80 meters, but was unable to successfully clear the bar.
Rechen tied for sixth place at 3.70 meters on attempts. Ahead of Rechen, two other athletes tied for fourth place, having also cleared 3.70 meters. The two fourth place finishers were successful on all attempts up to 3.80 meters.
Rechen's sixth place finish earned her all-America honors. She became the 94
th all-American in program history (42 indoor athletes and 52 outdoor athletes) and the first ever pole vault all-American for Ithaca.
Her mark of 3.70 meters was her second best showing this season, just 0.02 meters shy of the school record, which Rechen set earlier this year.
Amy Regan of Stevens Instiute of Technology competed in the 5,000 meter. As of 10 p.m. results are still unofficial. The event is being reviewed by the NCAA and a decision will be announced at a later time. Regan was seeded first in the event with a time of 16:40.84.
Ithaca's Brandy Smith competed at 5 p.m. in the weight throws and placed 11th overall. Smith reached 11.49 meters on her first attempt, then hit a mark of 15.58 meters on her second try. Smith's third and final throw reached 16.30 meters (53" 5.75') to finish in 11th.
Nazareth's
Taylor Pierson competed for the Golden Flyers in the women's long jump and finished 15th with a leap of 5.14 meters (16 feet, 10 1/2 inches). She finished in fifth place last season.
