No. 29 Stevens Falls To No. 3 Middlebury

RESULTS
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (March 14, 2015) – The No. 29 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team fell to No. 3 Middlebury College, 8-1 Saturday in the opening match of the Middlebury Invitational.
The loss drops Stevens to 3-3 while Middlebury moved to 1-0.
Middlebury seized early control of the match with wins at second and third doubles. Sophomore
Michael Feldman and freshman
Danny Polk fell at No. 2 for just the third time this season while junior
Tyler Tisdale and freshman Kyle were unable to overcome a 5-2 deficit at No. 3.
Juniors
Matthew Heinrich and
Ben Foran overcame a 3-6 hole at No. 1 to tie the match up at six, but Middlebury's Palmer Campbell and Peter Heidrich took the final two points to take the win. The loss dropped the Stevens' duo record to 4-2 this spring.
Feldman fell at third singles to bring the deficit to 4-0 where Middlebury clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Foran. Heinrich took his first set at No. 1, but Middlebury's Ari Smolyar took the second 6-2 before taking the third in a tiebreaker.
Smolyar entered play as the No. 15 singles player in the country.
Sophomore
Charles Drake fell in a tiebreaking third set at No. 4, but Polk got the Ducks on the board with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 5 to finish the match.
The Ducks will conclude the Middlebury Invitational tomorrow with a 9 a.m. match against No. 33 Brandeis University.
