Yoshino Wins Twice as Elmira Falls to Roberts Wesleyan
Pine Valley, NY -- In their first match since the Empire 8 Tournament Semfinals, the Elmira College women's tennis team fell to visiting Roberts Wesleyan College, 7-2.
Ayaka Yoshino '16 played a part in both of Elmira's points, winning at first doubles and second singles.
The Redhawks took a 1-0 lead in the match after an 8-1 win at second doubles, but EC's first doubles team of
Kimberly Salkin '18 and Yoshino responded with an 8-6 victory at first doubles. The Soaring Eagles nearly finished doubles leading 2-1, but Roberts Wesleyan's third doubles team escaped with an 8-5 win.
Five out of the six singles matches went in the Redhawks' favor, but several were close as the Purple and Gold showed resiliency. Yoshino was Elmira's lone winner in singles, posting a 6-3, 6-4 straight-set victory at the second position.
EC continues their spring schedule on Saturday, March 21st when they host Lycoming College at 1:00 p.m.
