Swimming & Diving Prepares For NCAA Championships

SHENANDOAH, Texas – The Empire 8 will send 16 athletes to the 2015 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Shenandoah, Texas later this week. The national meet will take place at the CISD Natatorium on March 18-21.
The event will be hosted by the City of Shenandoah and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Preliminary events begin each day at 10 a.m. They will be followed by the finals at 6 p.m.
Hartwick will send a total of six athletes to the championships. Ithaca and Stevens will both send four representatives. Nazareth and Alfred send one apiece.
'Wick senior Miles Blaney will make his third trip after participating in his freshman and sophomore seasons. He will compete in the 100, 200, and 500 freestyle events. Junior Ben Detar will swim in the 200 individual medley, the 100 fly, and 200 fly.
Hartwick junior Imma Rutigliano will swim in the 400 individual medley. She will join seniors Kaitlyn Campbell, Gwen Mathias, and sophomore Rachel Bellis to swim in the 200 and 400 medleys relays and the 200, 400, and 800 freestyle relays.
Stevens junior Ravi Sun will compete at the NCAA's for the second time. He will participate in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. He also swims in the 200 individual medley.
On the women's side, senior Brittany Geyer will be making her fourth and final appearance at the national championships. The NCAA champion will swim in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and the 200 individual medley. Sophomore Danielle Caruso and freshman Sarah Jurczyk make their first appearances. Caruso competes in the 500 free while Jurczyk swims in the 100 and 200 butterfly events and the 100 freestyle.
Ithaca will send one swimmer and three divers to the championships. Senior Lucas Zelehowsky will take part in the national championships for the second straight season. He will swim in the 100 butterfly. Senior Matt Morrison, sophomore Nickie Greisemer, and freshman Anna Belson all qualified for the championships at the Geneseo Diving Regional this past weekend. Morrison is competing at the NCAA's for the third straight time. Griesemer is making her second consecutive trip with Belson competing for the first time.
Senior David Luke returns to the NCAA Championships for the Alfred men's team. He also competed last season. Luke will swim in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
The final representative on the women's side is freshman Cameron Hess of Nazareth. She will be participating in the 1,650 freestyle.
