ECAC Honors Three E8 Athletes of the Week

Three Empire 8 student-athletes have been named Corvia ECAC Division III Upstate and Mid-Atlantic Players of the Week for the week of March 9-15, 2015.
Baseball – Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Wilson Matos – SUNY Canton, Freshman, INF, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Matos racked up a .378 batting average in 37 at-bats for the Roos last week. In addition to scoring the game-winning run in a 4-3 walk-off win over SUNY Fredonia, Matos also registered nine runs scored, six RBI and four stolen bases.
Women’s Lacrosse – Mid Atlantic
Defensive Player of the Week:
Steph Luce – Hartwick College, Sr., GK, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Luce fell short of a career-high by one save in the first half alone in an 11-7 loss to St. Joseph’s (LI) on Saturday. The senior goalkeeper made 16 saves in the opening 30 minutes and finished with 22 in the game. She added three saves in 50 minutes in an 18-0 shutout of Cazenovia on Wednesday.
Men’s Tennis – Upstate
Co-Rookie of the Week:
Kevin Kulawiec – St. John Fisher College, Fr., Fairport, N.Y.
Kulawiec went 2-0 last week to help the Cardinals to a 9-0 win over D’Youville in their lone match of the week. The freshman teamed up with Adam Moran for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles before capturing a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
