STEVENS 13, Bowdoin 9
The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team evened its record at 3-3 with a 13-9 win over Bowdoin College Wednesday evening at the Sportsplex in Virginia Beach.

The two teams played a 5-5 first half, with Bowdoin (1-4) closing the period on a 5-0 run. The Polar Bears were able to overtake the lead with the first two goals of the second half, but the Ducks kept their composure an answered with a 5-0 run of their own to take a 10-7 lead with 9:58 left in the game.

Junior attack Andrew Scrutchfield tallied back-to-back goals just 10 seconds apart to pull the Ducks even at seven, the first one thanks to a gorgeous pass from sophomore midfielder Connor Towne and the second coming from junior midfielder Matt Ferentini. Scrutchfield was pushed to the ground scoring the first goal which led to the second goal being a man-up tally. Closing the third quarter was junior attack Connor O'Shea who tallied unassisted to send the Ducks into the final '15' with a lead they would never relinquish.

Scrutchfield scored two more – the first coming from senior midfielder Michael Maroon – to open the fourth and essentially put the game away with a shade under 10 minutes left. Bowdoin was able to fight within two (10-8), but another run from the Ducks – this one 3-0 – resulted in a 13-8 advantage with 2:00 on the clock.

Maroon started the run, sophomore midfielder Conor McKeon followed on the back of a helper from Ferentini, and junior midfielder Michael Serrante closed the scoring for Stevens unassisted. The Ferentini-to-McKeon hookup was picture-perfect as Ferentini hit a cutting McKeon in stride before the sophomore went behind the back to create the angle he needed for the goal.

Stevens dominated the first quarter, taking a 5-0 lead 10:55 into the game with five different players scoring goals. Sophomore midfielder Connor McKeon started the scoring with 11:07 left in the first, with senior midfielder Michael Maroon finding the back of the net on a gorgeous shot inside the lower-right-corner of the cage from the right wing to put the Ducks up 2-0.

Ferentini followed with a laser, and Towne made it a 4-0 thanks to a feed from Ferentini. The first of Scrutchfield's five markers came at the 4:05 mark of the first to put the Ducks on top by five.

Bowdoin flipped the momentum later in the first, eventually tying the score before the break.

Scrutchfield led the Ducks with five goals on nine shots, with Maroon and McKeon notching two each. Ferentini led the Ducks with three assists, with McKeon and sophomore midfielder Jake Krantz each causing a pair of turnovers.

The Ducks ended with a 41-33 margin in shots – putting 29 goal, while also leading 31-28 in ground balls. Bowdoin won 14-of-25 faceoffs, but went just 1-for-8 on man-up chances. The Ducks converted three of their eight man-up opportunities.
