Ithaca Prevails Oneonta 19-8
ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team dominated Oneonta 19-8 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday March 18 at Higgins Stadium. The win improved Ithaca's record to 2-3 on the season. Oneonta is now 1-4.
Ithaca never trailed throughout 60 minutes of play.
Ally Runyon started off Ithaca's offense with a free position goal 42 seconds into the game. Junior
Riley Marion scored next for the Bombers at 26:54. Less than one minute later,
Morgan Cadwell put one away on a pass from Molly Fisher to extend Ithaca's lead 3-0.
The Red Dragons got on the board at 22:37. The Bombers responded 15 seconds later with a second goal by Marion. Cadwell registered another goal for Ithaca at 16:10 to lead 5-1.
No goals were scored for the next five minutes, until 9:26 when Oneonta snuck one past the Ithaca defense. Then
Morgan Racicot converted on an assist from
Riley Marion and
Delaney Gilson fed
Taylor Purvis a ball to put Ithaca up 7-2 over the Red Dragons.
Each team scored twice more before the end of the half to make the score 9-4 at halftime. Both of Ithaca's goals were made 30 seconds apart from one another, both by Runyon.
Natalie Lang assisted Runyon's second goal.
Runyon began the second half with her fourth and final goal of the game. Oneonta responded with a goal at 25:30, leaving the score 10-5 in favor of the Bombers. Ithaca then went on a four goal rally in seven minutes. Marion notched two goals while Lang and
Molly Fischer added one each. Runyon and Purvis both recorded assists during that time.
At 16:08, Oneonta cut Ithaca's lead 14-6. In the next 11 minutes, Ithaca put three in the back of the net on shots from Gilson, Fischer and Racicot. Marion and Fischer assisted one goal each, extending the lead 17-6.
With less than three minutes remaining in the game, Oneonta scored twice. In between the two Oneonta goals, the Bombers also executed twice. Racicot registered her third and final goal of the day on a pass from Marion and
Olivia Oppenheim recorded her first goal of the season to end the game 19-8 in favor of Ithaca.
Runyon and Marion finished the day with four goals. Marion had three asissts and Runyon added one for the Bombers. Racicot had three goals and both Cadwell and Fisher recorded two. Fischer also tallied two assists.
Gilson, Lang, and Purvis all contributed a goal and an assist, and Oppenheim added a goal as well.
Emily Ross secured her second win of the season with eight saves.
Ithaca outshot the Red Dragons 31 to 29 and edged Oneonta 29-22 in ground balls. The Bombers successfully recorded 15 clears on 18 attempts.
Ithaca returns to competition on March 21st in a conference game against St. John Fisher. The game is set for 3 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y and will mark Ithaca's first conference game of the year.
