Errors Cost Highlanders in Loss to Medaille

The Houghton College baseball team lost 12-4 this evening to the Medaille Mavericks at Houghton College.

After a scoreless first inning the Mavericks got on the board first scored three runs in the second inning to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.

The Mavericks continued to take advantage of the Highlanders errors in the field scoring seven more runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.

The Mavericks pitchers kept the Highlanders' hitters off balance all day only allowing two earned runs.

Steven Hostinsky earned his first collegiate win pitching three strong innings for the
Mavericks. Edward Monthie (Albany, NY, Christian Brothers Academy) was handed the loss after only one inning of work.

The Highlanders were led by Michael Kerr (Brentwood, TN, Hamburg ) in the field and at the plate. Kerr made two acrobatic diving catches in right field and led the way in the box score going two for four with one RBI.

The Highlanders are on the road tomorrow taking on Geneva College in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m.
