Ithaca and Utica Earn Conference Win

ITHACA 19, Elmira 1
The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team secured its second conference win, 19-1, against Elmira on Saturday, March 21 at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers improved their record to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8. The Soaring Eagles are now 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Twelve Ithaca players registered goals in the game and nine players recorded assists.

The Bombers controlled most of the game, denying Elmira a shot opportunity for the first 20 minutes of play. Ithaca's ride caused several turnovers on Elmira's clear attempts. Ithaca led 6-0 in the first quarter, and shut out the Soaring Eagles 10-0 over the first half.

The Bombers found the back of the net eight times in the third quarter. The Soaring Eagles got on the board with 1:23 left in the quarter, making the score 18-1 entering the final frame.

Ithaca scored one final time with 10:05 left in the game on a shot by freshman Jack Isaf and an assist from fellow rookie Kaelan Fitzpatrick.

Jack Shumway led the Bombers with three goals. Steve Danylyshyn, Sean Ferrito, Stephen Morrell, Isaf and Fitzpatrick all recorded two goals on the day. Fitzpatrick and Ferrito also notched an assist each against the Soaring Eagles.

Jimmy Ryan, Matt Greenblatt, John Januszkiewicz, Eli Gobrecht and Marc Ross all added a goal for Ithaca. Manilla, Greenblatt and George Voucas registered an assist each, while Januskiewicz and Ryan led the team with two assists.

Sophomore Grant Osadchey scooped a team-best seven ground balls and Eli Gobrecht led Ithaca with five caused turnovers.

Junior goalie Scott Sidnam earned the win with two saves. Goalies Justin Isaacs and Jack Deragon also saw time in the net for Ithaca.

The Bombers outshot the Soaring Eagles 59-9. Ithaca won 19-of-24 faceoff attempts and had a decisive edge of 50 ground balls over Elmira's 24. Ithaca tallied 10 successful clears on 12 attempts.


UTICA 9, Hartwick 4
The Utica College men's lacrosse team opened up Empire 8 Conference play Saturday with a 9-4 win against Hartwick College at Wright Stadium.  The Pioneers were led by Zach Stevenson who tallied six goals to remain the team's leader in points (11) and goals (nine).

Hartwick remains winless at 0-3 on the season including a 0-1 mark in conference play.  The Hawks hit the road this week on Tuesday as they travel to Pennsylvania to face King's College in non-conference action for a 4 p.m. set start.  

The Hawks got on the board first, just under two minutes into the contest, as Cody Petrillo found the back of the net, at 13:03.  The Pioneers would answer with four straight scores, over a 14 minute span, as they worked a 4-1 lead quick into the start of the second period.

The home team would convert one score at the 10 minute mark of the second quarter cutting the deficit to two, 4-2.  However, UC answered with another Stevenson goal, at 3:13, as he sealed his hat trick before halftime.  

The Pioneers opened up the second half with two goals in a span of 10 minutes as UC moved to a comfortable 7-2 advantage.  The squads went on to score two more goals apiece as Utica garnered its fourth win of the season as well as an early victory conference in the E8.
