Ithaca Defeats Houghton In E8 Opener
ITHACA 8. Houghton 1
The Ithaca College men's tennis team began conference play Saturday evening with an 8-1 win over Houghton at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell. Ithaca leveled its overall record at 3-3-1 and is 1-0 in the conference. Houghton is 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8. Ithaca's victory snapped a two-match winning streak by the Highlanders.
The Bombers swept the doubles matches. Ithaca got on the board with a win at third doubles by
Brandon Buksbaum and
Nate Wolf and were followed off by victories at second doubles (
Chris Hayes,
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos) and then the first singles team of
Jack Melhorn and
Wes Davis closed out the sweep with an 8-5 win.
Singles victories came from Melhorn, Hayes, Davis, Wolf and Buksbaum. All five singles wins for Ithaca came in straight sets.

STEVENS
The No. 29 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team overcame an early doubles deficit to defeat No. 22 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 6-3.
The win moved Stevens to 5-4 while Wisconsin-Whitewater fell to 11-5.
Sophomores
Antonio Perich and
Michael Feldman got the Ducks on the board with a decisive 8-0 win at third doubles, but Wisconsin-Whitewater answered with an 8-6 win at No. 2 over junior
Ben Foran and freshman
Kyle Henry.
Junior
Matthew Heinrich and freshman
Danny Polk fell behind 7-3 at No. 1 before coming back to make it 7-6, but the comeback bid came up short after Wisconsin closed out the 8-6 win to grab the 2-1 advantage.
Polk tied things up once singles started with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 followed by Foran's 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 3. Feldman continued the win streak with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 before Henry clinched the win with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6.
The wins were the fifth of the season at singles for Polk and Feldman.
Sophomore
Charles Drake picked up the Ducks final point of the day with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-3 win at No. 4 to end the match.
The Ducks will hit the road next weekend with a match against No. 12 Case Western University on March 28.

ST. JOHN FISHER
The St. John Fisher College men's tennis lost its first home match of the season on Saturday, as the Cardinals dropped a 6-3 decision to SUNY Oneonta at Mendon Racquet Club.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 2-5 on the year.
Pat McGrath and
Jacob Zarzycki combined to earn all three of Fisher's points. McGrath won 6-4, 6-1 at second singles, while Zarzycki held on for a 7-6, 6-2 win at third singles. The duo also picked up Fisher's first point of the day – an 8-4 victory at first doubles.
