Highlanders Drop Two against Kenyon

Gambier, O.H. -- The Houghton College softball team lost both games of their doubleheader against Kenyon College. Game one the Highlanders fell by the score of 10-2 and in the night cap Kenyon won 8-0. 

In game one Kenyon got on the board first scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first inning. 

The Highlanders got one back in the second when Adrienne Huston (New Waterford, OH, Crestview High School) hit a two out triple that scored Carolin Strasswimmer (Greenwich, NY, Greenwich/Adirondack CC) from first. 

Kenyon scored five more runs in third and fourth innings that gave them a commanding 7-1 lead. 

The Highlanders got one run back in the top of fifth when Ashley Schenk (Victoria, BC, Canada, Pacific Christian School) hit a single that scored Adrean Tiffany (Loweville, NY, Loweville Academy). 

In the bottom half of the inning a Kenyon batter hit a walk off three run homerun that put the "mercy rule" into effect and ended the game.
 
Maddy Stark earned the win for Kenyon and Morgan York (Canisteo, NY, Canisteo-Greenwood) was handed the loss. 

In game two Kenyon pitcher Sylvie Thomas silenced the Highlanders bats allowing zero runs and only giving up three hits. 

Kenyon scored one in the first, three in the third, and four in the fifth to earn the win  against the Highlanders. 

Georgianna Stoj (Depew, NY, Sacred Heart Academy) went three for three with a double. 

Sylvie Thomas was credited with the win for Kenyon and Sarah Beirne (Port Jervis, NY, Port Jervis) got the loss.
