Stevens Takes Down Hartwick in E8 Opener, 18-5

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 22, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8 with a 18-5 win over Hartwick College in the conference opener for both schools Sunday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The win is the fourth straight for the Ducks, while Hartwick drops to 1-4 (0-1 E8) in the loss.
Nine different players scored goals for the Stevens with sophomore midfielder
Kathleen Kalbian notching a game-best six. Junior midfielder
Erika Wilcox had three tallies, with seniors

Bridget Reed all added one marker, with Wilcox and Santor each recording two assists.
Stevens won 18-of-25 draw controls, led by the eight of freshman midfielder
Julianna Ricci. Wilcox added five and Kalbian four. Ricci, Wilcox and sophomore defender
Betsy Crossland each caused two turnovers, and senior defender
Amanda Ingersoll led the Ducks with four ground balls. Ricci, Crossland and Wilcox all had a trio of ground balls.
Freshman
Stephanie Schnelzer earned the win in goal for the Ducks, playing 30 minutes and notching four saves.
Stevens ended the contest with a 44-12 margin in shots, putting 32 on target, and the Ducks held a 27-20 edge in ground balls as well.
The Ducks scored the games first seven goals, with Hughes opening the scoring 26 seconds in to give Stevens a lead it would never let go of. Wilcox, DeLuca, Kalbian twice, Hughes again and Kalbian again all jumped in on the early run.
Hartwick fought within six (9-3) 3:48 into the second period, but the Ducks went on another 7-0 run to open a 16-3 lead, never looking back in the 18-5 win.
Over its last two games, Stevens has opened up leads of 9-0 and 7-0.
Both Hartwick and Stevens honored and remembered the Seton Hill women's lacrosse team that suffered a tragic accident on March 16, 2013.
