The Alfred University men's tennis team took an 8-1 decision from visiting Penn State-Behrend Tuesday afternoon in matches played at the indoor courts at Houghton College.

AU (3-2, 0-1 Empire 8_won five of six singles matches. Junior Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) won first singles, 6-1, 6-2; senior Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside) took third singles, 6-2, 6-2; junior Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) took fourth singles, 6-3, 6-3; junior Matt Baloga (Goshen, NY/Goshen) claimed fifth singles, 6-0, 6-1; and sophomore Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) won six singles, 6-1, 6-1.

The Saxons swept three doubles matches. Doud and sophomore Evan Haskins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) won first doubles singles, 8-6; Graham and Volz won second doubles, 8-2; and Brown and freshman Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East) won third doubles, 8-5.


ITHACA Box Score
The Ithaca College men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 match against Hobart College on Tuesday evening, March 24 at Glazer Arena. The visiting Statesmen led 2-1 after doubles play, but Ithaca came back to take a lead in singles matches, before Hobart pulled out the fifth and sixth singles matches to clinch the victory.
Ithaca is 4-4-1 on the season and Hobart is 8-1.

Hobart started by winning at the second and third doubles positions. At first doubles, Ithaca's team of Wes Davis and Jack Melhorn trailed 6-5 in the eight-game proset but answered with a break and a hold of serve by Davis to lead 7-6. Ithaca had several break-point opportunities in the next game but Hobart held for a 7-7 score. Melhorn held serve for Ithaca and then the Bomber duo got a break of Hobart for the 9-7 victory.

Ithaca took a 3-2 lead in the match on wins by Chris Hayes at third singles and Melhorn at first singles. Hobart tied things at second singles. As courts cleared, the fifth and sixth singles matches went on and were won by Hobart to clinch the victory. Wes Davis accounted for the last Ithaca point with a 7-5, 7-6 win at fourth singles.
