ECAC Athletes of the Week: March 16-22, 2015

Six Empire 8 student-athletes have been named Corvia ECAC Division III Upstate and Mid-Atlantic Players of the Week for the week of March 16-22, 2015.
 
Softball - Division III Upstate
Player of the Week
Alysa Russell – Utica College, Jr., SS, Mechanicville, N.Y.
Russell racked up 11 hits, two home runs and three stolen bases for the Pioneers last week. The senior also added three RBI and six runs scored as she currently sits with an eight-game hitting streak.
 
Baseball - Division III Upstate
Co-Pitcher of the Week
Robert Robbins – Stevens Institute of Technology, Junior, Tallahassee, Fla.
Robbins racked up a pair of wins in two starts for the Ducks last week. He tossed six innings of one-run ball against Christopher Newport before throwing a complete-game four hitter against College of Staten Island. . He struck out seven while only allowing seven base-runners against the Dolphins.
 
Baseball – Division III Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Andrew Hobika Jr. – Utica College, Freshman, INF, Clinton, N.Y.
Hobika, Jr. led Utica to a 6-2 record over spring break at the Russ Matt Tournament last week. The freshman infielder batted .556 in four games, going 5-for-9 with four RBI including two doubles, one triple and a home run. 
 
Men’s Lacrosse - Division III Mid-Atlantic  
Co-Defensive Player of the Week: 
Andrew DiOrio – Utica College, Senior, Goalkeeper, Greenlawn, N.Y.
DiOrio allowed just seven total goals over the course of two victories for Utica last week.  He stopped a total of 16 shots in 119:40 minutes of work.  He allowed three goals and stopped eight shots in the Pioneers 5-4 win over Morrisville on Thursday.  DiOrio added eight saves and gave up just four goals in the pioneers 9-4 win over Hartwick on Saturday.  He also totaled five ground balls.
 
Women’s Lacrosse - Division III Mid-Atlantic
Offensive Player of the Week
Erika Wilcox – Stevens Institute of Technology, Jr., M, Baldwinsville, N.Y.
Wilcox began her red-hot week with eight points in an 11-5 win over Stockton.  The junior netted five goals, three assists and had three draw controls.  Following up that performance, Wilcox tallied three more goals in Stevens’ 18-15 win over Hartwick, along with two assists and five more draw controls. 

Men’s Tennis – Division III Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Jack Melhorn – Ithaca College, Freshman, Nonthaburi, Thailand
Melhorn paced the Bombers to a pair of Empire 8 victories over the weekend. Playing at the top spot in both lineups, the rookie first took down Houghton by a score of 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and 8-5 at first doubles. He followed that up with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 singles win and an 8-3 doubles victory against Alfred.
