Ithaca Drops Close Game to #6 Cortland
ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 6 Cortland, 13-10, on Thursday, March 26, in a close game at Higgins Stadium. The loss put the Bombers at 3-5 on the season, while the Red Dragons improved to 5-1.
The score was tied on three separate occassions in the first half. Neither team led by more than two goals for the first 29 minutes.
Riley Marion started the scoring for Ithaca on an assist from
Ally Runyon to take the first lead of the game, 1-0. The Red Dragons answered back, but Runyon went on to score twice in two minutes extending Ithaca's lead 3-1. Marion assisted Runyon's first goal.
Cortland would take the lead, 4-3, after a three-goal rally in five minutes. Marion then tied the score at 4 on a free position goal, with 10:25 left in the first half.
At 8:33, Cortland extended the lead 5-4.
Ally Runyon countered to tie the score yet again at 7:14. The Red Dragons then went on to score four unanswered goals to lead Ithaca 9-5 at the half.
Natalie Lang lessened Cortland's lead to three off of a feed from
Riley Marion five minutes into the second half. The Red Dragons extended the lead again 10-6 at 21:44.
Morgan Cadwell responded three minutes later at 18:51, with her first goal of the day, to start a rally for Ithaca. In the next five minutes, Runyon found the back of the net, on an assist from Racicot, and Cadwell scored again to put Ithaca back within one, making the score 10-9 with 13 minutes left.
The Red Dragons put two more unanswered goals past the Ithaca defense to increase their lead 12-9. Runyon registered her fifth and final goal of the day with 5:22 left in the game. Cortland recorded one last goal with one minute left in the second half, making the final score 13-10.
Ally Runyon led the Bombers with five goals and an assist.
Morgan Cadwell and
Riley Marion each registered two goals. Marion also logged an assist against the Red Dragons. Lang put one away for Ithaca, while Gilson and Racicot each recorded an assist.

Ithaca led Cortland 14-11 in draw controls and successfully completed 10-of-11 clear opportunities. The Red Dragons slightly edged the Bombers 24 to 23 in groundballs and led 25-18 in shots. Ithaca recorded seven caused turnovers, to Cortland's three.
The Bombers return to action in an Empire 8 matchup against Hartwick, on April 3. Ithaca will host the Hawks at 4 p.m. on Friday.
