HARTWICK v Elmira
Hartwick's women's lacrosse team trailed 9-5 with 18 minutes left, but out-scored Elmira 9-2 the rest of the way in a 14-11 come-from-behind victory over the Soaring Eagles on Friday at Wright Stadium.
           
With the victory, the Hawks improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8. They also snap a seven-game winless streak against Elmira dating back to 2008. The Soaring Eagles fall to 0-6 and 0-3.
           
Lisa Littleton (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) tallied with 1:09 left in regulation to tie the score at 11-11 and send the game to overtime.Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) opened the scoring 30 seconds into the extra period on a free-position goal in what would prove to be the game-winner. She added another 1:54 later and Littleton tacked on the final goal off a feed from Kia Ference (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) with three ticks left to seal the win.
            
Littleton and Rosenberg each tied for a game-high with five goals. Littleton added an assist for a six-point day.Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) also contributed three goals for 'Wick.
           
The Hawks fell behind early as the Soaring Eagles scored five times inside the first six and a half minutes to gain a 5-0 advantage.
           
Hartwick got back into it with three goals in a 1:47 span to make it a two-goal game. Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties), Rosenberg, and Jweid registered the Hawks' goals. Rosenberg then made it 5-4 at the 12:58 mark.
           
EC tallied the final two goals of the half and the Purple and Gold entered halftime up by a 7-4 margin.
           
The two teams traded goals over the first 12 minutes of the second half. Down 9-5, Rosenberg, Jweid, and Littleton each scored within 3:52 of one another to make the score 9-8. EC got a little cushion with its 10th goal with 9:23 left but Littleton answered right back for the Hawks 54 seconds later.
           
Littleton tied the score from Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) with 5:55 showing on the clock. Marissa Mongillo put the Soaring Eagles in front briefly with an unassisted goal at 1:32 before Littleton forced the extra period with 69 ticks remaining.
           
The contest marked the first overtime game for the Hawks in 25 years when 'Wick beat Washington & Lee 8-7. It is only the eighth game that has needed overtime in program history.
           
Hartwick out-shot Elmira 30-22 in the contest. The Soaring Eagles had more ground balls (31-28) and draws (15-13).
           
Meagan Wright (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) led all players with five caused turnovers on the day. She also tied for a team-high with five ground balls and she added an assist. Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs)also grabbed five ground balls. She made seven saves in the Hawks' cage. Jweid collected a game-high seven draws and she contributed four ground balls.
           
Elmira was led by Ashton Hogan and Moorea Spoljaric who combined for nine goals and two assists. Hogan had five goals and two helpers. Spoljaric also scored five times. EC goalie Lindsay Wargo made five stops.


STEVENS v Utica
Junior Erika Wilcox and sophomore Kathleen Kalbian combined for 13 points to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team past Utica College 17-8 in Empire 8 conference action on Friday.
 
The Ducks (5-1, 2-0 E8) scored the first two goals of the contest just 1:48 in, as senior Caitlyn Hughes and freshman Cami Santor scored 30 seconds apart. Utica answered back to tie the game on goals by junior Courtney Wheeler and freshman Brooke Miller. Stevens then scored five of the next eight markers with Hughes and Wilcox each connecting twice. The Pioneers (4-3, 0-1 Empire 8) trimmed the deficit to 8-5 on a goal by senior Morgan DuPont with 54 seconds left in the opening half.
 
Stevens poured it on in the second half, notching the first six tallies with freshman Julianna Ricci potting two goals and Kalbian recording three straight goals. The Pioneers attempted to answer back, getting within seven goals after senior Patricia Kane and junior Courtney Wheeler scored, but the Ducks silenced the comeback with goals from sophomore Mariel Haubrich, junior Mackenzie Swartout and Wilcox.
 
The Ducks held a 31-17 advantage in shots and forced three more turnovers than their opponents. Hughes finished with three goals, while Wilcox had three goals and four helpers to go along with two draw controls. Ricci and Kalbian each forced two turnovers while freshman Stephanie Schnelzer and junior Catie Shelton combined to make eight saves.
 
Wheeler led the Pioneers with three goals while DuPont had two goals in the loss. Juniors Kells Casey and Erin Jacobson registered a combined 17 saves for the visitors.


ST. JOHN FISHER v Alfred
The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse program cruised to an 18-2 win at Alfred University on Friday afternoon.   With the win, Fisher, ranked 17th nationally, improves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference.

Fisher led 12-0 late in the first half, as seven different players scored Fisher's first eight goals.

Freshman Kennedy Frink tallied a career-high six assists, while Samantha Barton led the Cardinals with four goals and five draw controls.

Freshmen Kaitlyn Agedal (three goals) and Mackenzie LeVan (two goals, one assist) each recorded their first points at the collegiate level. Chrissy Cook tallied two goals and one assist, while Sierra Badger added one goal and two assists.

Emily SmithLindsey ShoalesAbbie ReedErin WardFelicia Suto and Morgan Young also scored for Fisher.

Lexi PeeblesCori Holbrook and Levan each tallied three ground balls.

Goalies Nicole HartJenn Crater and Molly Maguire combined to earn the win in net for Fisher.

 
NAZARETH v Houghton
Host Nazareth dominated Houghton in Empire 8 Conference women's lacrosse action Friday. The Golden Flyers built an 11-0 halftime lead and went on to take a 15-0 victory over the Highlanders on the Golden Flyers' Artificial Turf field.

It was the Empire 8 Conference opener for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 6-2 overall. Houghton is 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference games. The game marked the third shutout victory in Nazareth's women's lacrosse history. The Golden Flyers blanked RIT, 13-0, in 2003 and Alfred, 16-0, in 2005.

Fourteen different players scored in Friday's romp, led by freshman Haley DeVona, who had three goals and two assists. Sophomore Kate Rothrock added one goal and three assists. Freshmen Katie Carroll and Morgan Johnsoneach were credited with their first career goal.

DeVona scored less than a minute into the game off an assist from senior Brooke Sullivan to start the scoring. Houghton had difficulty clearing the ball and had 30 turnovers. Rothrock and fellow sophomores Gabbie CharlesHeather Groot,Leah Marvin and Jamie Martin also scored in the first half, along with junior Carly Gates, seniors Sullivan and Bri Mancini and Carroll. 

DeVona's third goal of the game came before the second half was two minutes old. Senior Suzie Gray, sophomoreHayley Spoljaric and Johnson also scored for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers had a whopping 30-5 edge in shots and a 25-12 advantage in ground balls. Senior Ashley Kirchplayed the first half in goal and made three saves. Freshman Mackenzie Corbett played the final 30 minutes and had one save.
