ATLANTA, Ga. -- Nazareth's men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2015 outdoor season in record-breaking fashion Friday as the Golden Flyers competed in the first day of the Emory Classic.

The women's meet was highlighted by a Nazareth school record in the 4 x 800-meter relay with freshmen Kimmy Lovett and Samantha Goble combining with seniors Hannah Brackley and Michaela Gildemeyer to post a first-place time of 9:25.62, shattering the school record by more than 12 seconds.

Freshman Emily Soeder, who missed most of the indoor season with an injury, finished second in the high jump as she cleared 1.59 meters (5 feet, 2 1/2 inches). Junior Taylor Pierson also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.30 meters (17 feet, 4 3/4 inches).

In the men's meet, junior thrower Luis Rivera picked up where he left off during the indoor season as he broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a heave of 51.57 meters (169 feet, 2 inches) to finish in third place. He soared nearly three feet beyond his previous mark set late last season.

Freshman Kevin Witt finished seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:22.45.
