HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Wells Express exploded for 10 first quarter goals and cruised to a 23-6 win over Houghton men's lacrosse on Friday night.

The games's first seven minutes went back and forth, with Houghton getting the first goal of the night from Sean Daigler before Wells responded to even the score just two minutes later. Before another minute had expired, the Highlanders edged ahead 2-1 off a Paul Chapman man-up tally. Wells scored the next two to go up 3-2, but Daigler scored again to knot the score at 3 apiece with just over six minutes to go.

That's when things started to fall apart for the hosts. The Express finished the quarter with seven-straight goals to go up 10-3 at the first break. Justin Flint was able to convert another man-up opportunity to start the second quarter, but Wells scored three more times to close the half.

That momentum continued for the Express in the second half, as the visitors outscored the Highlanders, 4-0, in the third quarter. Chapman and Josh Bailey each scored in the fourth, but Wells scored six times in the quarter to put the game away.

Wells outshot Houghton 49-31 and took advantage of strong play in the faceoff circle, winning 21 to just 10 for Houghton.

Jordan Warren played the first quarter in net, stopping four shots and allowing 10 goals to get the loss. Josh Haingray played just over 37 minutes, allowing 10 goals and making 10 saves. Zachary Jackson finished the final eight minutes with three goals allowed and no saves.
