Cardinals Stay Hot; Ducks Top Oberlin

ST. JOHN FISHER 9, Utica 0   Results
The St. John Fisher College men's teannis team cruised to a 9-0 win over visiting Utica College on Sunday in the Empire 8 Conference opener for both teams.  With the win, Fisher improves to 4-5 overall and marks the program's third win in the last four matches.

The Cardinals didn't lose a single set on the day.

Pat McGrath and Jacob Zarzycki won 8-1 at first singles.  McGrath won 6-1, 6-4 at second singles as well, while Zarzycki picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles.  

Kevin Kulawiec and Adam Moran picked up a point at second doubles with an 8-3 victory, while Kyle Stich and Vichaka Khoy won 8-1 at third doubles.

Moran won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles, while Kulawiec, Stich and Dan Tedesco each won 6-0, 6-0 in their singles matches.


STEVENS 7, Oberlin 2 RESULTS
The No. 24 Stevens Institute of Technology rode the momentum of a doubles sweep Sunday to topple Oberlin College 7-2.
 
The win moves Stevens to 6-5 while Oberlin fell to 6-5.
 
Juniors Matthew Heinrich and Ben Foran got the Ducks started with an 8-3 win at first doubles before sophomore Michael Feldman and freshman Kyle Henry continued the momentum with an 8-6 win at No. 2.
 
The win was the fifth of the year for the ITA Northeast doubles champs, while Feldman and Henry teamed together for the first time this season in the win. Freshman Danny Polk and sophomoreCharles Drake polished off the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3 to give the Ducks the 3-0 advantage heading into singles.
 
Heinrich extended the lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win at first singles before Oberlin finally got on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2. Needing just one more win to clinch, Drake closed out a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 to seal the match for Stevens.
 
Foran won 6-7, 6-3,10-7 at No. 3 while Polk took a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5 to round out the Stevens scoring for the day.
 


Connecticut College 9, ITHACA 0
The Ithaca College men's tennis team went on the road to face Connecticut College, the 20th-ranked team in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and dropped a 9-0 dual match. Ithaca returns to Empire 8 play this week with a dual-match Tuesday at Utica and Saturday at Stevens Institute of Technology.
