Fisher Picks Up Two Wins

The St. John Fisher College softball team won another pair of spring break contests on Thursday to improve to 6-0 on the season.

The Cardinals recorded the come-from-behind win in 10 innings with Meghan Burns hitting the game-winning single to right field. Kristina Balsano recorded the game-winning run.
 
Fisher trailed the Knights 5-1 in the fourth innings, but Jazzi Chadwick got things started for the Cardinals. She got hit by a pitch then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Balsano, a freshman, then belted a two-run home run to center field to put Fisher within two runs. It was the first home run of Balsano’s career, as well as Fisher’s season.
 
The Cardinals strung together a pair of singles from Kate Disbrow and Burns to put bases loaded with zero outs. Fisher tied the game at 5 when Lauren Owens hit a sacrifice flyball then Karlie Neale was hit by a pitch.
 
Fisher and MSMC remained tied at 5-5 through the 10th inning when the Cardinals secured the win.
 
Burns finished 3-for-6 with one run and one RBI to lead the offense. Balsano added two runs and two RBI. Disbrow finished 2-for-5 with one run. Lauren Owens, Jennifer Knaak and Neale each added one RBI.
 
Kayla DePara earned the win from the circle in her first career appearance. In 6.2 innings of work, the freshman limited the Knights to four hits, while striking out five and walking none.

Lindsey Thayer recorded her first complete shutout of her career by striking out nine Beavers with three walks and two hits as Fisher claimed a 1-0 win over Bluffton.
 
The Cardinals tallied their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Balsano started the inning with a single to right field. Christina Sakran laid down the sacrifice bunt to move Balsano to second base. Disbrow singled then after the first baseman committed an error, Balsano scored and Disbrow advanced to third base.  
 
Disbrow finished 2-for-2 with one RBI and Owens went 1-for-3.
 
Fisher returns to action at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday when the Cardinals face York College of Pennsylvania and Northland College, respectively.
