In a top 20 showdown, the St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse program dropped a 12-11 decision to York College on Tuesday in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Fisher, ranked 17th nationally, was playing in its first game of the season, while the Spartans, ranked 13th nationally, improve to 2-1 on the year.

The game was a rematch of last year's NCAA Division Championship First Round game.  The Spartans won that game, 13-12, in overtime.

For Fisher, freshman Kennedy Frink led the Cardinals with five points on two goals and three assists.  Senior Lindsey Shoales tallied four goals and three draw controls.
Samantha Barton (two goals, one assist) finished with three points and four draw controls.  Sierra Badger (one assist) also won four draws.

Senior Erin Ward scored twice, while freshman Morgan Young scored her first career goal.   Junior goalie Nicole Hart made five saves in net.

Fisher led 2-1 seven minutes into the game for its only advantage of the contest.

The Spartans scored four of the next five goals to take a 5-3 lead and led 6-4 at the half.  York scored the first two goals of the second half to take an 8-4 lead, but the Cardinals refused to go away.

Fisher scored three goals in a 1:11 span to pull within a goal at 8-7 midway through the second half.  York took a 10-7 led with just over nine minutes left, but Fisher rallied again, scoring three straight to tie the game at 10s with 4:50 left.

After two straight goals from the Spartans, Fisher pulled to within a goal at 12-1 with 50 seconds left, but the Cardinals failed to win the ensuing draw and never regained possession.

Fisher returns to action at 9 a.m. (EST) on Thursday as the Cardinals play Christopher Newport University in its second game in San Juan.
