Ithaca Downs Houghton In E8 Opener
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Eleven different players scored at least one goal and the Ithaca College men's lacrosse team opened its conference season with a 22-5 road victory at Houghton. Ithaca is 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Houghton is 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Empire 8.
The Bombers scored seven times in the first quarter and led 7-1 after the opening 15 minutes. Ithaca scored the first seven goals of the game, including two each from
Steve Danylyshyn,
Jack Shumway and
James Manilla.
Justin Bird also scored in the run.
Ithaca led 12-2 at halftime, 15-5 after three quarters and then closed the game by outscoring the Highlanders 7-0 in the fourth quarter.
Scoring leaders for Ithaca were Shumway with four goals and two assists, and Cotton with two goals and four assists.
Austin Smith had a goal and three assists. Danylyshyn had three goals, and Manilla had two goals and an assist.

Justin Isaacs played the third quarter and
Jack Deragon played the fourth quarter for the Bombers. Ithaca held a 46-19 advantage in shots, a 32-11 advantage in ground balls and 23-7 edge in faceoffs. The Bombers were 12-for-12 on clears.
In its four games this season, Ithaca has averaged 15.75 goals per game.
The Bombers will play twice this week in Tampa, with a 4 p.m. game Tuesday at Division II University of Tampa and a Division III neutral-site game against Salve Regina on Thursday at 7 p.m. also at the University of Tampa.
