Cardinals Off To Best Start In Program History

The St. John Fisher College softball squad is off to its best start in program history after completing its Spring Break trip to Fort Myers, FL with a 9-1 record.  Fisher defeated Drew University 5-0 in its opening contest on Saturday before dropping a 3-1 contest to Wartburg College.
 
Lindsey Thayer pitched 10.2 scoreless innings on the day, including a complete seven innings against Drew University in Fisher's first contest.  The freshman has now pitched 30.2 scoreless innings dating back to March 3.

Fisher notched one run in the first inning as Kristina Balsano singled to center to score Meghan Burns.
 
The Cardinals loaded up the bases in the fourth inning with no outs to put the Rangers in jam.  In the inning, Samantha Poules and Burns singled to each pick up an RBI while Jennifer Knaak and Kylee Martin earned an RBI on sacrifice flies.
 
With the win, Thayer improved to 5-0 in the circle, allowing just four hits and striking out 12.
 
Burns went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Balsano was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Fisher managed just five hits against Wartburg's Kimberley Wedeking.
 
The Knights scored all three runs in the fourth inning with an RBI single scoring the first run, followed by a two RBI double.  Thayer replaced fellow freshman Kayla DePara to strike out the final two batters in the inning.
 
Burns had the lone RBI for Fisher in the game after Martin singled with her at bat.
 
Burns finished 2-for-3 while Lauren Owens, Martin and Christina Sakran notched a hit apiece.
 
DePara suffered her first loss of the season to move to 2-1 on the year.
 
Fisher returns to action for a doubleheader on March 23 when it will host Medaille College, starting at 3 p.m.
