Robbins Fans Eight; Wiktorski Hits Walk-Off

Robert Robbins struck out eight batters over six innings while allowing only two hits to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Rutgers-Newark Saturday.
The Ducks improved to 2-0 with the victory while handing the Scarlet Raiders a loss in their season opener after having their previous three games canceled due to inclement weather.
Rutgers-Newark started the scoring off in the top of the second off a bobbled groundball which scored the leadoff batter, who reached on a walk. The Ducks answered in the bottom half when senior Nicholas Sieber led off with walk and advanced to third after a long double by sophomore
Zeph Walters. Senior
Gregg Nickels hit a chopper to the first basemen, and Sieber was able to dance around the tag and stretch a hand across the plate to score. After an RBI groundout by sophomore
Garrett Wells, senior
Marc Calleo hit a sacrifice fly to score Nickels.
The Scarlet Raiders got a run back in the top of the third off a homerun to right field by Chas Bohannon. That would be all the scoring for the game, as Robbins, senior
Peirce Marston, and juniors
Danny McIntyre and
Ryan Patterson combined to allow only four more baserunners the rest of the contest.
Walters finished the afternoon 2-2 while also drawing two walks. Patterson pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his first save of the year, while Robbins recorded the win.
Andrew Nasti allowed three runs (three earned) over five innings and struck out three in the losing effort.
ST. JOHN FISHER 6, NJCU 5
Cody Wiktorski scored on a on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to push Fisher to a 6-5 walk-off victory over New Jersey City University Saturday in Winter Haven, FL.
With the win, Fisher improves to 3-4 overall while the Gothic Knights fall to 0-2.
After NJCU tied the game at 5 in the top half of the inning, Fisher got a huge boost from Wiktorski as he roped a triple. The junior captain then scored on a wild pitch to lift the Cardinals to the win.
Facing the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth,
Erin Moskal was able to get the final out of the inning get out of the jam.
New Jersey City scored the first run of the game in the opening inning but the Cardinals got two runs back in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead.
Calvin Woolhiser singled to right field to earn an RBI in the inning and score
Jack Trotman.
Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom half of the 7
th inning, Fisher was able to regain the lead 5-4 after notching two runs.
Wiktorski doubled in the inning to score
Victor Konstantinovsky on an unearned run. Wiktorkski moved into scoring positioning off a fly out from Woohiser, allowing
Mike Roman to notch an RBI single as the next batter.
Wiktorski finished 2-for-5, while Woolhiser notched two RBI. Konstantinovsky scored three runs for the Cardinals.
Fisher returns to action Sunday for a double header in Punta Gorda, FL staring at 1:30 pm against Marietta, followed by a 5 pm start with Ohio Wesleyan University.
