Stevens Tops Swarthmore; Houghton Falls to Roberts
STEVENS 6, Swarthmore 3 The No. 31 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team won four singles matches Saturday en route to a 6-3 win over No. 27 Swarthmore College.
The win moves Stevens' record to 3-2 while Swarthmore fell to 2-1. All three of Stevens' wins have come against teams that've spent time this season in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top-40.
The win also snapped the Ducks three match losing streak against Swarthmore.
Freshman
Danny Polk and sophomore
Michael Feldman got the Ducks started with an 8-5 win at second doubles before Swarthmore came back with a win at No. 3. Juniors
Matthew Heinrich and
Ben Foran were behind 5-6 at No. 1, but came back after Foran saved multiple match points to take the 9-7 win.
The win was the fourth of the season for Heinrich and Foran while Polk and Feldman moved their record to 3-2.
Foran fell at second singles to tie the match at two, but Heinirch overcame a first set loss to take No. 1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to regain the lead. Feldman followed suit with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 to put the Ducks up 4-2 where Polk clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Freshman
Kyle Henry dropped his match at No. 6 while sophomore
Charles Drake took the 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 win at No. 4 to close out the match.
The Ducks will be back in action next weekend with a pair of matches in the Middlebury Invitational. Stevens will open up with a match against No. 4 Middlebury College on Saturday before battling No. 34 Brandeis University on Sunday.

Despite some hard fought matchesHoughton men's tennis couldn't earn any wins in a 0-9 loss to Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.
The matches were played in the Kerr-Pegula Field House.
